Robin (Hugh Jackman) has long since ceased to be a folk hero; he is now an aging lone warrior with far too many bodies on his conscience. The legendary outlaw brutally kills those seeking revenge for their fallen relatives—and there are plenty of such daredevils—and buries them alongside many other such unfortunate souls. When his former comrade Little John (Bill Skarsgård) asks Robin to help deal with the men who have seized his farm, the archer grumbles but agrees. Very quickly, things take a turn for the worse, and soon Loxley, having suffered a serious wound, is preparing to die. But John arrives just in time to save his friend and takes the barely alive Robin to a monastery on a remote island, where Sister Bridget (Jodie Comer) tries to bring back to life a man who long ago stopped considering himself worthy of salvation.
