Wick, meanwhile, finds a way to get to Casablanca, where he meets old acquaintance Sophia (Halle Berry), who, like many people with a complex criminal biography, holds a karmic debt in front of him. Together they develop a simple and effective plan, the purpose of which is to deliver John to someone who is above the “Board” and discuss, so to speak, the situation.
In the third part of the saga about the adventures of the unstoppable killer, Chad Stahelsky crosses out the verb “enough” from his personal dictionary and shoots at us from all his guns. The bad news: he has not so many guns. The good news: they work without blunders. Actually, the main one is the poetry of battle, and when Stahelsky tells the story only through skirmishes, hand-to-hand and sharp objects, you get a delightful movie that eats you completely, not to take your eyes off.
As a former stuntman, moreover, of old hardening, he appeals to the classics (including Asian ones), doesn’t cut the action into a shallow salad and without any loss in dynamics achieves a crazy effect of presence. With fantasy, he is also in full order: the fights here are not only perfectly set, but also coolly invented. Moreover, Stahelsky does not hesitate to be funny in the context of battle scenes: one run of a dog on Holly Berry’s back is worth something (or an unforgettable murder of a man by a book).
I must say that there’s not much to shy аbout: this is a fat, redundant movie made using the Fast and the Furious 8 method: we multiply everything we are rich with by five. The consequences (they love this word in the picture) are appropriate: if they add “cranberries”, then God forbid, they give way to pathos - dialogs turn into a set of pompous quotes, stiffness sometimes turns into a separate attraction. The plot is bursting with a series of betrayals, dismissals, escapes, returns, but, surprisingly, you do not get tired: Stahelsky switches the toggle switches so cool, from serious to funny, from stupidity to something worth noting that you almost don’t notice the beat in rhythm.
As for Keanu, the second powerful weapon of the film, Keanu, of course, yes, solid casting. Although it gives in places a late Cage, but, firstly, who said that it was bad, and secondly, the specificity of some scenes obliges (and, in general, it is so funnier). It is incredibly touching to watch how Stahelski (who was the Reeves understudy on the Matrix) lovingly gives Wick the proportions of a mythical hero, powerful, unsinkable, and regularly leads him through all the circles of hell. In this regard, John 4K is such a little hero of Michael Kane from the film “Hit on the System”, adjusted for principles and craft: he killed everyone, then prevented him from being happy, Wick kills everyone who prevents him from being free.
