Of course, we are exaggerating. But only a little. Instead of a thrilling new plot, Jason Bourne offers a faint repetition of past stories about Bourne's confrontation with high-ranking Tsareushniki. The detective intrigue in "The Bourne" is completely absent (if you watch a spy movie, you will instantly guess where the picture is heading), I don’t want to list the obvious scenario bloopers just because the film is clearly not designed for thoughtful viewers ... Well, since Bourne is fundamentally limited character, then there are no jokes, no romantic scenes, no glamorous moments in the tape. The entire Jason Bourne is a dark cat-and-mouse game in which Bourne sneaks from Athens to Las Vegas to settle accounts with the head of the CIA.

It would seem that this is not the worst offer for your money. But Bourne is too tough for his game with the CIA to sound tense. Ordinary militants of the department fly away from him like bowling pins, and the CIA does not even try to send an entire army against him. So the tension in most of the action scenes in the film is the same as in the early section, where Bourne, participating in underground battles, knocks out an enemy with one blow. Matt Damon might as well push through a crowd of preschoolers.

The screen temperature rises only when the nameless Special appears in the frame - the ruthless CIA killer played by Vincent Cassel, who has personal scores with Bourne. The specialist is the only one who can hold out against Bourne for more than a second, but they have only one direct skirmish at the very end of the film. It is preceded by a rather spectacular chase through the streets of Las Vegas, during which the Specialist drives a police armored car and demolishes everything in its path. Apart from these few minutes (the chase plus the fight), there is nothing to watch in the film, and you will lose a little if you come into the hall by the end of the session. In principle, you can still note the chase through the streets of Athens at the beginning of the picture, but this is just an aperitif, not the main course.

Also keep in mind that Greengrass's trademark "dangling" handheld camera and aggressive montage does not do the best in action scenes. Half the time you will be trying to figure out what just happened. Although "Jason Bourne" is much more intelligible in this respect than the recent "Star Trek: Infinity", where editing and filming simply buried several action sequences.

If Jason Bourne was a compact one and a half hour film, it could be pulled on a three for an energetic soundtrack, famous people in the frame and formal compliance with the requirements for spy cinema (dynamic action, frequent scenery changes, war of a lone agent against a powerful organization) ... But a sweeping two-hour picture with minimal action-efficiency and without humor, sexy and intriguing plot cannot count on a positive assessment.
