Many years ago, Gargamel set a bad girl against the Smurfs, but the Smurf Papa turned her into a Smurf and called her Smurfette. Now Gargamel wants the bad guys to go to the world of the Smurfs, kidnap Smurfette and extract from her a spell that turns the bad guy into a Smurf and gives him magical energy that Gargamel can use in witchcraft. When their adoptive sister disappears, the Smurfs are sent to rescue her. Just like last time, they ask for help from Patrick Winslow (Neil Patrick Harris) and his family, including young son Blue and elderly stepfather Victor (Brendan Gleeson).

But if the first picture was an exercise in insanity, then the second tape is a sane, sometimes funny and often fascinating fairy tale for kids (adults have nothing to catch here), which touches on a dilemma that many children understand: “Who are my parents? Those who conceived and gave birth to me, or those who raised me and raised me? "

Many sequels suffer from the fact that they continue the story familiar to the audience and lose the freshness of the first meeting with the bright characters. The Smurfs 2, on the contrary, benefited from the sequel. Firstly, the second picture cannot be blamed for the unreasonable transfer of action from the magical world to Earth. If Gargamel now lives here, then the return of the Smurfs to our world is quite justified. Secondly, the sequel does not torment the audience with jokes that fairytale characters do not know how to go to the toilet on Earth (both Gargamel and the Smurfs managed to get used to our life). True, the toilet humor remained in the film, but now it's just bearded, not aggressively dumb jokes. Finally, thirdly, the transfer of the action to Paris saved the tape from obtrusive ads and scenes at Winslow's work. In The Smurfs 2, Patrick is not the VP of Marketing (truly a fairy tale character!), But a good friend of the main characters who helps save Smurfette and at the same time realizes how wrong he was when he hated his stepfather for many years. So this time, Winslow's story does not take time away from the adventures of the blue men, but emphasizes the moral that Gosnell is trying to convey in the main story (Smurfetta chooses between Pope Smurf and Gargamel). And while the production is too clumsy and awkward to be called “touching” or “soulful,” The Smurfs are clearly heading in the right direction. If it goes on like this, the third or fourth Smurf film will be a masterpiece!
