In the heart of the sea they will have to know themselves

After watching such great films as "The Magic Country" and "Saving Mr. Bank," I began to be interested in films that tell not about the content of a literary work, but about the writers themselves, about the reasons why they wrote them. And although "In the Heart of the Sea" the plot line about the writer is of secondary importance, rather than the main thing, but it was enough for me to pay attention to this film.

The plot tells us about the history that formed the basis of the famous work of Herman Melville "Moby Dick". But this story is not about Moby Dick. This narrative is not about obsession and revenge, but about pride and greed that pushed people to kill such beautiful creatures. And about the trials through which they will have to go through to change. And only a strong body and a solid spirit are able to pass it. So to use this unbanal story instead of the already worn about Moby Dick was simply a brilliant decision. Instead of a story with a well-known outcome, I received a new, unknown, the outcome of which was yet to be learned.

Keith in this picture is presented in my opinion something more than just a mammal, albeit of incredible size. This whale can actually turn out to be the defender of its jamb, which destroys all whalers who dare even approach it. A unique creation of mother nature, avenging for the mass destruction of their brethren. Or maybe, according to the assumption of Captain Pollard, and the incarnation of the Lord God seeking to punish whalers for their sins. The creators of the film, although they do not give a clear answer to these questions, but personally gave me food for thought. So I think that everyone should decide which of the theories is closer to him.

Actors. Chris Hemsworth embodied in the image of Owen Chase a little typical character for himself. Proud and overconfident. Just reminded me of his characters from the first "Torah" and "Race". But at the same time, he made it clear that he is a professional in his business. A great sailor, brave and determined, who has the dream of becoming a captain and providing for his family. But because of the prejudices of that time about noble birth, he does not get to realize his dreams. But the character of Benjamin Walker George Pollard, with the exception of noble origin, no longer has any qualities that allow him to be a captain. But he is a captain, and he tries, under cover of this origin, to justify his incompetence. Thereby provoking a conflict between him and Chase. Thomas Nickerson, played by Tom Holland, attracted me nothing. But in the performance of Brendan Gleeson, on the contrary. The old sailor, who wants to forget the terrible 3 months spent at sea after the attack of the whale, is forced again to recall them. And although he does not want to do this, he also realizes that he has no other way to find peace in his soul. Ben Wishaw could not, unfortunately, fully reveal his character. Too he crumpled and unclearly, he explained the reasons for which he wants to write "Moby Dick." Most of all I liked Michelle Fairleigh as the wife of Thomas Nickerson. One must have the talent to abruptly transform from a soft, gentle and loving wife into a hard, practical and calculating woman. Without her character, Thomas Nickerson could hardly even begin his narrative. The rest I will not mark, because no one else was able to impress me.

Also in the film there are some disadvantages that I would like to note. The conflict between Chase and Pollard in no way affected the storyline of the film. Although the prerequisites for this were. The attack of the whale on the ship happened too quickly and was not as large as I saw in the trailer. But these are trifles.

In the end, we get a great film that managed to breathe new life into the legendary Moby Dick, which showed that even the stories on which great works are based are no less interesting than the works themselves.
