ReviewsBig money has Big fees
Ridley Scott for me, the director is amazing, and he amazes me with his versatility. His record includes dozens of works, including cyber punk, drama, comedy, horror, thriller and historical epic. It is because of such a mixed amount of work that it is very difficult to single out the genre where the director is really good.
Prometheus 2012 4k HDR UHD. 10 bit.
Scott is primarily a first-rate producer, because the actors create all his films, whether it's Russell Crowe or in this case Michael Fassbender. Scott does not like to take risks, which is why young actors appear in his films only when they are at the peak of their popularity. As for stylistics, here the director is simply "good", he can not be called a master in any one genre. That's why speaking about the Prometheus film it's hard for me to form a whole opinion about him, this movie promised to scare us but did not scare us, Steron spoke about the drama and I did not get it, but nevertheless the firm director's hand did its thing, took from everywhere a little bit and it turned out a good movie.
Still, the main mistake of the film is a vain attempt to link the film to the first "Alien", here a lot of illogicalities and inconsistencies of the plot come up. I will not think about them here, I will only say that after this film it took me about an hour to at least somehow logically arrange what is happening in the film. The great maestro himself got himself confused in his films, perhaps he just figured that the final frame that "puts everything in its place" will eliminate a huge number of questions and switch the viewer's attention to the original picture of the year 79, but this did not happen.
Returning to the acting, I would like to say that in this film it was not actually required, Fassbender's stony face was the only thing that interested me on the screen.
The film is filled with gloomy and mysterious music, and the same atmosphere that is created with the help of the gray sky and the dark empty corridors of the alien ship. And it's all. It seems that the very status of the director and the concept of "prequel to a stranger" should have made the second half of the case for him, but here, too, not everything is smooth. I am an ardent supporter of effort and soul in the cinema. When others were slime and dolls, when they sewed costumes and then sold them on ebay for a few thousand dollars - then really felt the work, diligence. Now everything is created by computer special effects, and no matter how ideal they were not not felt the effect of presence, tangibility. This is especially felt at the end of the film, when computer graphics become particularly noticeable and monsters are becoming increasingly unrealistic. Of course, the 21st century to some extent even "obliges" to create a completely computer cinema (especially after avatars and others), but with it disappears suspense and art. Suspensa in this film is not much and he is at most low-grade in content but not in effectiveness - fright, disgust.
Prometheus - a massive film, not horrors, but more thriller. He will definitely collect a lot of money, and this is perhaps the only feeling left after watching. A movie for making money and nothing more. My words can confirm Scott's recent words in an interview: "If Prometheus collects a lot of money, we will shoot the sequel." And the key words here are not "film", not "continuation" namely "money".
