During a survey of a remote planet located on the other side of the galaxy, the crew of the colonial ship "Covenant" discovers that what they initially took as an uncharted paradise is in reality a dark and dangerous world. His only resident is the synthetic android David, who survived after the doomed expeditionary mission Prometheus.
ReviewsAlien: CovenantPerhaps few will argue with the fact that Prometheus has become one of the most controversial films in the work of director Ridley Scott, who literally divided the audience into two opposing camps. Some of them easily accepted the director's experiment in a long-known universe, and others were disappointed that the film did not follow the precepts of the original film. But if there were some questions and comments on the vision of the project, they can easily be forgotten after viewing this tape.
Obviously, after "Prometheus", the film's director Ridley Scott has done a lot of work on correcting mistakes. Not only returning the cult monster to the screens, from which it seemed to everyone that everyone was already nauseous, but also finding the strength to not step on the same rake twice. Which is more than clearly reflected on the plot of this tape.
The plot of the picture conditionally continues the events of the original tape after 10 years, but in fact represents a free retelling of the events of the original "Alien". When, with minor innovations, the first act of the picture is a similar scheme of events with a mysterious signal of help and a group of heroes who are sent to the source of the signal in order to obtain answers and implement a possible rescue operation.
If in the first act the plot of the picture takes over the already trampled road, then the further the plot develops, the deeper Ridley plunges into the essence of the universe and answers a huge number of questions that have been formed for so many years. Including and presenting to us the answer not only on where the Alien came from, but also by whom he was created. It is around this that the main plot layer of the picture is kept, which is literally permeated with numerous biblical references. After all, if Prometheus raised the question of where humanity and life came from, the "Covenant" raises the topic of who has the right to create life, what is its price and how insignificant people are before the gods and those who think they are themselves. Due to this, perhaps and achieving an indescribably luxurious and intriguing climax, which lays a huge potential for creativity in creating the next part and an irresistible desire to find out what will happen next. It's sad that behind all this and the disclosure of David's character, the very history of engineers has strongly moved to a second or even a third plan.
Separately, I want to mention the characters themselves and their actions, which were repeatedly criticized in Prometheus. "The Martian" was for Scott a great lesson and against this background, the film certainly wiser. Not only from the point of view of scientific certainty, but also the adequacy of the characters, which is kept at a reasonable level, and sometimes the characters, if they do not act correctly, do this as a lever for the development of the plot. After all, if it were not for their mistakes and the movie would be and the events would end in the 10th minute.
Similar work on errors is reflected in the direction of the direction. Despite the promises of the creators of the tape and the presence of the xenomorph (on the screen it is less than expected), the "Testament" turned out to be close not to "Alien", but to "Prometheus" and this is good. Since realizing the inability to enter the same river twice, Scott perfectly beat on the screen a hodgepodge of several genres at once. But of course, filling it all with luxurious visual effects, a tension and suspense atmosphere, smart action scenes with full R-rating and all the rest. Unless, confusing the musical accompaniment of Jed Kurzel, which is not only not remembered, but it is impossible to listen in isolation from the film. Separately, I would like to note the magnificent incarnation of the xenomorph, face-keepers and a new threat in the person of the neo-morph, which is very pleasant to watch. The only bad thing is that the very Alien in the picture is criminally small.
A great game was demonstrated by Michael Fassbender. Both android are incredibly similar in appearance, but very different in terms of life and its values, and this is beautifully reflected on the screen Fassbender. Having created strong and characteristic images. Especially in regard to David, who is the main backbone of the picture and his main antagonist is more dangerous than the xenomorph himself. Catherine Waterston, Demian Beshir, Carmen Edgiego, Billy Crudup and all the others performed equally well. Pleasantly surprised Danny McBride. Disappointed episodic appearance of James Franco, almost all the scenes with which it seems to have been carved.
9 out of 10
Alien: Covenant HDR 4K is exactly the film that the "Alien" and "Prometheus" fans both expected and deserved. Ideal film is not called and there is where strives further, but the work on the mistakes is done tremendously and to view the picture is not at all miserable spent time. A very intense, intriguing and truly breathtaking film, the continuation of which I hope will not take long. Especially after such a climax.
