The main character of the new cartoon, Makoto Shinkai, has an amazing gift - she can change the weather with the power of thought. When Tokyo is buried in drops of incessant rain, she meets him - a young man who is eager to start a new life in the metropolis. Together, they are destined to change everything, because where the heroine appears, the sun always shines.
Weathering with You 4K ReviewImmediately I would like to note the visual component, now no one does such a detailed and high-quality 2D animation. And such a combination of hand-drawn pictures and computer graphics makes this Shinkai style simply unique.
About the plot, in principle, the classic "guy meets a girl" in urban conditions with a share of mysticism. In this film, the story is simpler and easier than in the previous works of the director, there is a little more comedy, less depth and drama. But the necessary tension and drama at the end of the film is created, and what is happening on the screen captures.
About the past of the main character (Hodak Morishima), before appearing on the screen, in fact, we do not know anything. On the one hand, we do not always understand the motivation of his actions and behavior. On the other hand, the lack of a background allows you to concentrate on his actions in the present and his relationship with Hina Amano and other characters. The protagonist also acts as a narrator. The character’s character is quite realistic for a teenager, sometimes impulsive, and sometimes confused and insecure. To my surprise, the romantic line does not occupy a dominant position in the plot, it is spelled out well, you believe in the feelings of the heroes from the first shots.
“Child of the Weather” has much more in common with the movie “Your Name” than with other Shinkai films both plot and style. The success of the previous film obviously influenced the director. This superbly animated school romance is certainly great, but not the best work by Makoto Shinkai.
