The life of the exorcist John Constantine may end at any moment Constantine: City of Demons 4K. While the DC cinematic universe is still trying to make sensible competition for Marvel, the animation work in this field seems to have come from the mirror dimension.
You can not say this about Constantine: City of Demons 4K. Against the background of other studio works, this is the most silent splash, especially for fans. Not as controversial as the last Batman cartoon, but still.
Murphy rolled out a banal story of more or less evil that does not suit the character of John Constantine. Yes, there are demons. Yes, there is cruelty. But the spirit of rainy England, cynicism and toxicity, as if it were not there. Even the non-canon Keanu Reeves coped with the embodiment of the image on the screen better than Matt Ryan's most reliable drawn carrier of voice.
Matt Ryan is, by the way, the same guy who played Constantine in the closed 2014 series. And yes, he was damn good.
As for the cartoon - everything is ambiguous. This is a very American story, in which John simply has no place. But as the full-length incarnation of a tiny web-series just wonderful.
Stories about the adventures of John Constantine - this is not at all the path for director Dag Murphy. As soon as I saw the first shots, I thought about Scooby-Doo. Also an occult detective, so to speak. And what was my surprise when I learned that Murphy was involved in the filming of the series about Shaggy and Scooby.
Constantine: City of Demons 4K is a controversial picture, the storyline of which was created either for Konstantin not at all, or just unsuccessfully stretched from a small comic book. I do not recommend watching fans. But if you like DC animation, please. But it’s better one more time to watch the 2005 non-canon film.
