Lindy is a bouncer who has anger management issues and is therefore afraid to kill someone. Therefore, in order to control herself, she wears a special vest with a discharge that calms her down if the situation gets out of control. But when her lover is killed, she removes him and goes in search of the killer.
Jolt 4K ReviewSince childhood, Lindy had "bouts of uncontrolled aggression." But the doctor and inventor Manchin (Stanley Tucci) came up with a special jacket for her, more like an exoskeleton, with which Lindy can control her outbursts of anger. When she falls in love with the cute accountant Justin (Jai Courtney), the aggression disappears and the corset is sent to the closet. Until Justin gets killed. Then Lindy pulls out her combat outfit, all the weapons in the house - and the carnage begins in the style not even of "Another World", but rather "John Wick". All the next half an hour and a half - this is happiness for fans of exciting battle scenes and furious action.
"Pretty woman on edge" from the very first frames knocks down not only the characters, but also the viewer. The main character Lindy (Kate Beckinsale) is a bomb of mass destruction, a bouncer who owns all types of martial arts and all types of weapons. This is the return of Beckinsale as we have loved her since the days of "Another World": formidable, uncompromising and cruel. Beckinsale joins the ranks of strong heroines with brute force against the male world with a military arsenal: Charlize Theron ("Explosive Blonde") and Carey Mulligan ("Promising Girl"). The list could, of course, be expanded, but fantasy, espionage passions and detectives should not be confused with the pure hack, which is brilliantly presented by "Pretty Woman on a Platoon." It's also nice to see a woman in the director's chair - the talented Tanya Wexler, who switched to the action side after the comedy films "The Collector Girl" with Zoe Deutsch and "No Hysteria" with Maggie Gyllenhaal. It is also noteworthy that with the approach of Wexler, we will avoid excessive sexualization of the main character, as if the film was shot by a man (remember the same "Another World").
By the way, Kate Beckinsale compares favorably with performing stunts on her own. If "Explosive Blonde" is a montage celebration, in which you can clearly see where the real Theron is and where her stunt doubles are, and "The Promising Girl" does not require complicated choreography at all, then "Pretty Woman on a Platoon" shows what Kate is capable of. A large number of rapid and long shots make it possible to consider an actress who honestly does her job.
The difference between "Pretty Woman ..." from similar action films is also that it has some kind of, but a developing plot. And there are even jokes (Lindy yells: "Just don't dress in latex!" - clearly hinting at her participation in the disgusted actress in the "Underworld" franchise, in which Kate spent all the episodes in a latex suit). Closer to the finale, there is one scenario "trick with the ears" (an experienced viewer will be able to guess what it is already in the middle of the film). And there is an unexpected episodic appearance of a top-ranking actress. It is a pity that many reveal it in their reviews, and the director, naturally, least of all wanted to declare it from the very beginning. But if you do not read the criticism and watch the trailers, then you will be pleasantly surprised, so we will leave room for a pleasant surprise just in case.
"Pretty Woman" does not boast about her budget. It is noticeable that the funding is small (the operator Jules O'Laughlin has got his hand on high-quality series, which means he can make an "expensive picture" out of nothing), especially since in some countries the action movie will be released immediately on small screens (producer - Prime Video of the video service Amazon ). It is all the more interesting to watch "Pretty Woman ..." on the big screen in order to understand how a serial format can become a dynamic thoughtful action.
