A group of young people are having a party at a large country house, and Sophie (Amandla Stenberg), who has fallen out of the circle of friends not so long ago, and her partner Bea (Maria Bakalova) are there. The girls are kind of expected, but they're welcome to come anyway. The hurricane that begins gathers everyone inside the house: to amuse themselves somehow, the friends decide to play a game of "bodies, bodies, bodies." The rules are simple: they turn off the lights in the house, everyone runs away, one of the participants acts as a killer and looks for a victim. If someone finds a "dead" player in the darkness, they must shout "bodies, bodies, bodies, bodies," then the lights turn on and the others try to figure out the killer. After the first round, the friends quarrelled and scattered to different rooms, but because of the downpour with wind the electricity in the house is cut, and the party organizer David (Pete Davidson) somehow ended up outside, and even with his throat cut. Now the friends have to find the real murderer among themselves, and they have nowhere to go, because they cannot escape in this storm.

A24 rarely has a bad outing when it comes to independent film, the famed studio is always a few steps ahead of the rest. If a slasher comes out under the auspices of A24, the classic "teenagers turned the wrong way and lost all their limbs" trope is not to be expected. "Bodies" is a slightly bleeding-edge comedy with pretentious and hyperbolized characters, each of whom is a collective and familiar image. Alice (a terrific Rachel Sennott, responsible for the most quotable expressions in the film) is an easygoing and slightly hysterical girl who judges everyone solely by their zodiac sign. The only thing we know about her new boyfriend Greg (Lee Pace) is that he has a Moon in Libra. The relationship between bored golden youth representative David (Pete Davidson) and Emma (Chase Sue Wonders) is a daily test of strength for both. They are all rich white guys, except for Sophie and Bea, who don't fit in at all. The characters' dialogues are more like the Internet's skirmishes in terms of intensity and irony, and TickTock's obsession is reflected in the references to the jokes from 2021.

Essentially, "Bodies, Bodies, Bodies" draws attention to how we in today's society play "Field of Miracles" of problematicness, spinning the wheel in search of a victim to blame for all social sins while trying to stay clean. The characters, in an attempt to find a potential murderer and keep themselves safe, are willing to recall any transgression to each other, just to shift suspicion to even the person closest to them. As in any hermetic Agatha Christie detective, we will collect clues and figure out the killer; since there is no gardener in the fancy mansion, we will have to look for the culprit among the characters. The unpredictable finale will dot the nonsensical investigation, in a sense even confronting the viewer by making him rethink the nature of his suspicions.

Despite the witty plot and entertaining concept, the movie hangs on three turtles: the comedic talent of Rachel Sennott, the stellar charm of Amandla Stenberg and the sheer superiority of Maria Bakalova. "Bodies" bribes precisely with acting charisma and chemistry, slasher slasher slasher, and blood won't wash over the viewer. The film offers a fascinating hour and a half game of detective and a machine-gun line of punchlines, which, in principle, is enough for the viewer for one homicidal evening, but the film is unlikely to want to rewatch.
