Fearing that the actions of the god-like superhero will remain uncontrollable, the formidable and powerful guardian of Gotham City challenges the most revered savior of Metropolis today, while the rest of the world decides which hero he really needs. And while Batman and Superman are at war with each other, a new threat is emerging that puts humanity in the greatest danger it has ever faced.

Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice 4K Review
After Superman (Henry Cavill )'s war with General Zod leads to the partial destruction of Metropolis, people's opinions about the superhero are divided. While some see Superman as the messiah savior, others are horrified that there is a creature on Earth that cannot be stopped by any army. "What happens if Superman goes against people?" - Ask themselves, among others, billionaires Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) and Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck). And both of them are trying to create a weapon that could stop Superman.

The word "justice" in the title of the film is an allusion to the organization of the Justice League, which includes many DC Comics superheroes.
We know from the history of the creation of the new comic book superblockbuster that DC Comics and Warner studios originally planned to release a second episode of Superman's adventures. Batman (aka Bruce Wayne) was written into the script when the plot of the film had already begun to take shape. This was not a cause for concern - many scripts have benefited from significant changes, sometimes made at the very last moment. But now it is clear that we should have worried. Because the addition of Batman made the picture not better, but worse.

The film's African scenes were supposed to be shot in Morocco, but the producers chose the safer desert of New Mexico.
Why? Because if you write down on a piece of paper everything that happens in "Batman v Superman" and cross out what is not important for the main plot of the tape, then the pencil will cross out the name of Batman. At its core, Zack Snyder's tape is the story of the confrontation between Superman and Luthor, during which a young and brilliant, but mentally unhealthy tycoon, scared to death by the very existence of a superhero, first tries to discredit him, and then - to kill him. To do this, he uses Kryptonian technology and creates a nightmare monster called Doomsday (this is not a spoiler - Doomsday appeared in the trailers of the film). Thus, the film's key dramatic conflict is whether Superman will surrender when humans turn against him, and whether he will resist when he fights a monster born on Earth, but based on the biotechnology of his home planet.

What role does Batman play in all of this? Secondary. Although the hero of Gotham thinks with his head and acts on his own, Luthor, as a brilliant manipulator, actually sets him on Superman. Lex reasonably believes that it would be better if the superhero is killed by an understandable Earthman than if an unpredictable monster does it. So Batman becomes a kind of warm-up for Superman before the main battle of his life. At the same time, although the earthly superhero participates in the fight with Doomsday (this is also shown in the trailers), he almost does not contribute to it. Basically, Batman is just trying to survive while Superman tries to win. So if Batman was not in the film, the picture would have become shorter, but its main plot would have changed slightly. Luthor would just go straight to Doomsday. Or arm his mercenaries with superweapons.

When a movie becomes cluttered with subplots that don't deepen its main theme, the narrative suffers. And Batman v Superman confirms this general rule. Numerous scenes involving Batman and his butler Alfred (Jeremy Irons) overly complicate the film and take up time that could be more artistically spent on an intelligible presentation of Doomsday, a thorough study of the relationship between Clark Kent and Lois Lane (Amy Adams), mental anguish Superman and so on.

To make matters worse, the film dupes Batman to make him a pawn in Luthor's hands. In the comics, Batman is called "the greatest detective", and one would expect that the highly experienced Batman Ben Affleck (the film repeatedly emphasizes that he has been fighting crime for twenty years) will appear at the peak of his mental form. But, although Bruce Wayne is clearly not a fool, not only does he not figure out Luthor's plans in advance, but he does not even know everything there is to know about Superman. Wow "greatest detective"! In the film, this title clearly belongs to Luthor, and it turns out that Batman is being replayed by a boy, yesterday's student. Yes, as an action hero Bruce Wayne shows his best side. But in the universe where supermen fly, Batman has few gadgets and steel muscles. He needs to work hard with his head.

By the way, about working with your head. As comic book connoisseurs predicted, the much-hyped fight between Batman and Superman boiled down to the use of kryptonite (recall that this is a substance from Krypton that weakens and even kills Superman's relatives). When Superman is healthy, Batman, even after the gusto of the shown training, cannot oppose him, and the rival plays with the "bat" like a kitten with prey. When Batman uses kryptonite, the advantage is on his side, and the walls and ceilings in an empty building are already pierced by Superman's head. And so several times, until one of the heroes wins. Seemingly cool, but less dramatic than the similarly choreographed Terminators closet fight in the climax of Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. Because there robots fought to the death, and in "Batman and Superman" the audience knows in advance, from the trailers, that none of the heroes will die by the end of the battle and will not be seriously injured. They still have to tame Doomsday!

The result is that Superman's story is less told than it could have been if the film wasn't regularly distracted by Batman, and the Dark Knight didn't command the respect he should have. And its best fight scene can be seen from the comfort of your home. This is a scene from trailers, where he scatters a whole squad of mercenaries in a few seconds with spectacular techniques.

And what about Wonder Woman performed by Gal Gadot? She is also disappointing because she only has a few scenes in the picture. At first, in the middle of the film, she attracts Bruce Wayne's attention as an "ordinary woman", and then disappears for a long time and appears at the climax in battle armor to distract Doomsday with Batman and help Superman win. The painting does not mention her full name or heroic nickname and does not tell anything about her, except that she lives an unnaturally long time. It's good at least that the tape demonstrates its main combat super techniques. It is not worth mentioning the other superheroes declared in the credits - they flicker on the screen, but do not participate in the action in any way.

What else is worth mentioning? That Affleck turned out to be a convincing Batman, that Eisenberg is extremely annoying in the role of the eternally grimacing Luthor, that there are almost no jokes and frivolous moments in the film (pathos, pathos, pathos!), That the picture is so discolored that sometimes it seems black and white, that in the tape full of heroic slow-motion passages, that the film has some very effective footage and that a significant part of the budget was spent on real and computer pyrotechnics. Although the action in the film is less than one would expect, and it is mainly concentrated in the final part of the picture.

Also, those who criticized "Man of Steel" for the abundance of innocent victims (Clark Kent must save, not kill!) , someone on the screen notices that there are no civilians around to get hurt. This is, of course, nice. But it would be better if real viewers did not suffer from the way the film is arranged.
