The story is expected to be an adaptation of the famous comic book crossover, which began with Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) traveling back in time. As a result of the butterfly effect he produced, Bruce Wayne died as a child in an alley robbery instead of his parents, so Batman became his father, Thomas Wayne, and the Joker became Bruce's distraught mother, Martha. The Justice League doesn't exist in this version of the DC universe, as Superman is in government custody and the Atlanteans led by Aquaman and the Amazons with Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) are trying to conquer the world while fighting each other in parallel. Only the main hope of America - Cyborg (Ray Fisher), who decides to assemble a new team, can unite the remaining superheroes.

The Flash 4K Review
The solo movie about the fastest superhero in the world (Mercury, move over) can be confidently called, among other things, the most unfortunate in the concept of the DC film universe. Like many blockbusters of the early 20's, "Flash" was at the stage of production hell as a result of coronavirus restrictions. Further - more: the creative team of the picture changed at least five times. At various times, the creators of "The Flash" were involved in the development of "Lego. The Movie" Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the director of "Mandalorian" Rick Famuyiwa, the writers of "Bad Bosses" John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, as well as the author of comic books Grant Morrison. After much haggling, the director's seat was taken by Andres Muschetti, known, in particular, for the "It", the script was given to the British Christina Hodson ("Bumblebee"). However, "Flash" had a new trouble: several people accused the performer of the main role of Ezra Miller in the attack, the case went to court and mass public censure. Producers Warner Bros., which for all the past time managed to invest in the movie crazy for today's times budget of 200 million dollars, decided once again not to risk and postponed scheduled for mid-2022 premiere in the summer of 2023. However, no one is forgotten, nothing is forgotten. A year later, the stigma around Miller's name hasn't disappeared, and yet "Flash", unlike "Titanic", turned out to be unsinkable - critical reviews of Muschetti's picture are noticeably higher than other DC projects of this year and are second only to Matt Reeves' "Batman". Although the achievements of "Flash" in the global box office ($ 9 million dollars in the first days of the show) still raise reasonable doubts about box office success.

The plot of "Flash" is partially inspired by the legendary Flashpoint comic book - the main character Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) travels back in time in hopes of preventing the death of his mother Nora (Maribel Verdu), as well as to save his father Henry (Ron Livingston) from the unjust accusation of her murder. Alas, things don't quite work out as planned: Barry finds himself in an alternate universe in which the Justice League was never formed. A reborn General Zod (Michael Shannon) arrives on Earth, and Barry is aided in his battle by Batman (Michael Keaton) and Supergirl (Sasha Calle).

As expected, the "Flash" script focuses entirely on the concept of meta universes and intertemporal travel, which loosens the writers' hands considerably, giving them the opportunity to introduce a host of nationally beloved characters into the script, including superheroes from the Joel Schumacher and Tim Burton eras. For most DC fans, the very possibility of seeing Michael Keaton or George Clooney in a Bat-Man costume is the ultimate catharsis of the fanservice for which the movie was actually made. The idea to gather all the "disish" Batman (Ben Affleck's character also appears on the screen) and other representatives of the DC pantheon on one screen looked great on paper, but at the stage of realization faced an insurmountable reality. In a recent interview, actor Michael Shannon admitted that his return to Zod did not "feel like a full-fledged role": each key character in The Flash is given at best ten minutes of timing, which allows you to enjoy the moment, but does not bring the expected satisfaction. The grotesqueness of Michael Keaton's Batman is irretrievably lost, Nicholas Cage in blue tights does not have time to say a word. The expediency of using these images raises questions.

Luckily, The Flash's script, which miraculously retains the gore and light-heartedness of John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, was able to overpower Christina Hodon's grim textures. Barry Allen is the most perky and witty member of the Justice League; his solo movie was never meant to be a retribution drama. Nevertheless, the hero goes through his stage of existential crisis, experiences the pain of loss and a savior complex, revisiting his most heartbreaking childhood memory again and again. Like many modern comic book adaptations, "Flash" attempts to reframe the basic theses of superheroics, resorting to the method of psychoanalysis. Behind the image of a funnyman in a silly tight-fitting suit is increasingly appearing resentful of unfair fate of the boy who suddenly thinks he is God. The search for points of contact with inner pain, as is often the case, takes place in close contact with oneself - in the case of "Flash" in the most literal sense possible.

And putting aside the noticeable overlaps with the technical side of Muschetti's movie, the visuals of which are destroyed by over-saturated CGI, completely artificial fight scenes, and disynchronized musical accompaniment (all of which we've already seen from Zack Snyder in his time), "Flash" is quite capable of delivering some undiluted fan enjoyment. Exclusively for those who all these years secretly hoped for a date with Ezra Miller, a renaissance of Michael Keaton's superhero era or another impressive appearance of George Clooney.
