Woody, Buzz and all their friends live happily with the new owner - a cute girl Bonnie, who is about to go to first grade. Once, with the help of a plastic cowboy, Bonnie brings home-made toy from the school - Mr. Wilkins, made of disposable tableware and other rubbish. He becomes a favorite and dwarfs all factory friends, but he himself is not so happy. And when the family goes on a trip by car, Wilkins, who is not fully aware of his transition from a piece of garbage to a reasonable toy, escapes through the window - Woody, as always suffering from an aggravated sense of duty, goes to save him.

The continuation of the “Toy Story 4K” was doomed to some skepticism: the completion of the franchise in the third film was painfully logical, beautiful, and on all sides ideal. The penetrating farewell of the heroes to Andy - the projection of a small spectator, with which he inevitably matured - did not imply any epilogues or sequels. It was an irrevocably completed journey that we shared with the heroes for 15 years, and the only way the new cartoon seemed to go was almost treacherous. Yes, we said goodbye to the toys and reconciled that we were too old for them, but I really didn’t want to see the new owner pull out their plastic legs and smear them in the mud.

But, as it turned out, the finale of the third part did not lie: “Toys” after changing the owner remained in good hands. The fourth film itself does not look like a desperate attempt to find a new audience - rather, another nostalgic, bittersweet epitaph in the old days. He was written basically by the same old team - even the disgraced now John Lasseter managed to take part in the script - and with them the elegiac intonation that painted the third part did not go anywhere.

The scriptwriters very cleverly circumvented the completeness of the last film, finding in it one interesting loophole - the disappearance of the porcelain shepherd Bo Pip, who silently disappeared somewhere between the second and third parts. Largely because of this, for the optional sequel, Toy Story 4 Ultra HDR looks amazing ... out of place. As if it was originally in the global plans of the authors - the conflict seems so organic that it arises here in the soul of Woody who seems to have found peace. If he devoted the entire trilogy to the service of others and, at the end, humbly accepted a new place and a new master child, then for the first time he is offered to live for himself, which of course he does not know and does not know. And leave the games young: specifically - a homemade toy from, ahem, garbage and sticks, which everything pulls back into the trash.

In this, the fourth “Toy Story Ultra HDR” strongly resembles “Cars 3” - another Pixar cartoon about generational change, humility and acceptance, with the same cute-old tone. There are no villains here at all, even dolls as frightening as death straight from the "sinister valley" turn out to be, in general, victims of circumstances. The only thing that really drives the heroes is the desire for egalitarian happiness for all for nothing, and let, as they say, no one go away offended. Their philanthropism is naive as never before, but it is not at all childish: it is a completely mature philanthropy, captivating sentimental and almost sacred in its implacable faith in world good.

"Pixar" continues to deftly play with the audience’s nerves, the same seemingly same tricks, well-placed accents and melodramatic music causing a hail of tears for everyone who has kept something remotely resembling human feelings. “The history of UHD toys”, in addition to all its intertextual virtues, is generally rich in emotions: here it is sad and scary (the dolls are really very creepy), and very funny. True, most of the humor was given to the newcomers: that homemade toy with a talking name Wilkins, a hilarious couple of plush hooligans and especially the great Duke Babah, a stunt dude with a stunningly absurd backstory and Keanu Reeves's voice (but, of course, not with us). Of the old guard, only Buzz Lightyear is odd - sorry, already without the "Spanish regime."

Somewhere in an interview, Pixar representatives managed to promise that “Toy Story 4 UHD” is the last sequel of the eminent studio, and only original projects will be one hundred percent further. If so, then the departure of the old franchises can be considered quite spectacular: having closed all the gestalt and quietly retired as much as twice in a row, they can finally sleep peacefully. New toys will take their place - maybe crooked, oblique and stupid, but it's nothing, they still manage to grow wiser and maybe become better than the old ones. Yes, and the kids seem to like it - but for whom else should I try?
