The heroes of the next action movie by British director Guy Ritchie find themselves in the center of a whirlwind of underground boxing matches, a white bulldog devouring everything, a huge diamond stolen during a robbery, two stupid agents, a mafia boss and a bunch of other equally colorful characters. An hour and a half of healthy laughter is provided for everyone!
Snatch 4K ReviewFrom the best British filmmakers of the 00s, screenwriter and director Guy Ritchie (Lock, Stock, Two Barrels, Sherlock Holmes, Revolver, Rock 'n' Roller and, all of a sudden, Aladdin) and producer Matthew Vaughn ( Kingsman, Stardust and the best part of X-Men is First Class). Edgar Wright is missing for the full picture.
The film is essentially a logical continuation of the predecessor "Lock, Stock, Two Barrels", but multiplied by 2. This is a "window" into the incredibly colorful world of criminal London, taken from the angle of a collection of jokes, urban folklore, while the world is simply overflowing with a huge number of already cult and very funny characters, phrases and situations.
The standard of the genre.
Excellent screenwriting and directorial work: atmospheric and intriguing world, a large number of interesting and sudden plot twists, filigree rhythm, dialogues, music, British accent, extremely convincing acting and humor, a lot of humor.
For me, the best role for Brad Pitt. He was a fan of Guy Ritchie and asked for a role in his new film, but could not accurately mimic the London accent, and so his character appeared - an indistinctly muttering and incredibly cheeky gypsy.
Excellent Jason Stethem at the dawn of his film career, but with a bald head. But most of all in the film I like Stephen Graham, seemingly unremarkable, but very charismatic actor (later will appear in the role of Al Capone in "Underground Empire", also played in "Gangs of New York" and a lot of important English films).
Plot. The scene of action is London, in the center are several at first unrelated storylines from the life of modern bandits:
1. Four-fingered Frankie steals a huge diamond and intends to deliver it from England to the USA;
2. Two owners of a slot machine hall are trying to master a new business of underground boxing;
3. Three hapless black robbers who are buying stolen goods are planning to "rob" the bookmaker's office.
As we go along, the lines begin to intersect, of course. Stunningly colorful supporting characters appear and unfold (the film is simply overflowing with them): an American to whom a diamond should be delivered, Jews, gypsies led by indistinctly speaking Brad Pitt, Russian arms dealer Boris "Razor" or, as he is also called, Boris "Fuck you will, "Tony's hard collector" Bullet in the Teeth "and so on.
After the release of the first films by Guy Ritchie, many called him the British counterpart of Tarantino.
This is understandable: sometimes non-linear storytelling, many characters, criminal orientation of what is happening, humor, rhythm, music and attention to detail at the same, and in my opinion, even more abrupt level.
I love this movie more than Reservoir Dogs. It's thinner, funnier, more sudden and brighter.
What a pity that Madonna, the future wife of Guy Ritchie at that time, could not become the muse that he needed. After The Big Jackpot, all of the director's subsequent work began to decline, and now he has completely turned into an artisan, churning out another game remake of the cult classic for Disney.
