Darcy and Tomi gather family and friends at a resort to celebrate their wedding. On the eve of the celebration, they both realize that their feelings have cooled. On top of that, unknown assailants show up at the wedding and take everyone hostage.
Shotgun Wedding 4K ReviewDarcy (Jennifer Lopez) and Tom (Josh Duhamel) anticipate their wedding on an island. Before the ceremony, the newlyweds have a serious fight and find themselves on the verge of breaking up. An ex-bride's arrival, an uncomfortable wedding dress, and doubts about each other all turn out to be nothing before the real disaster to come. The party is taken over by pirates: the guests are held hostage, and Darcy and Tom need to forget their differences and save everyone close to them.
Rarely does a Hollywood wedding movie go without Jennifer Lopez. Think back to last year's "First Man to Meet You" or the cult romcom "Wedding Crash" - the actress really seems to enjoy trying on white outfits. In "My Pirate Wedding," though, Lopez's character is unhappy for most of the running time with the puffy dress she got from her lover's mother (Jennifer Coolidge). Talks about Jason Moore's film have been going on for so long that the pop diva has had time to change her anti-piracy partner more than once. The role of Tom was originally supposed to go to Ryan Reynolds, but he passed the baton to Armie Hammer, whose scandalous life forced him to leave the project. In the end, it was Josh Duhamel - perhaps the perfect candidate with whom Lopez really had chemistry - who had to handle the wedding business.
Unfortunately, the talk of making the picture looks far more interesting than the story itself. The director combines two genres, a romcom and an action film. In both, Lopez and Duhamel feel at ease. Whether it's tearful moments against the backdrop of a picturesque island or fights with criminals, the duo puts their best foot forward. But it's not enough to keep the viewer in front of the screen. Narrative intrigue does not surprise, action scenes do not cause enthusiasm, and the small timing of a hundred minutes is felt at all two hundred - the dynamic pace does not capture attention, but rather, inexcusably exhausting. In addition to the lead performers, Jennifer Coolidge is a viewer's delight - it's not the first time the actress has stolen the show and taken up arms in a hot resort.
Of course, pirates and trying to stay alive are just the tinsel in which relationship lessons are wrapped. Darcy and Tom are at first glance a flawless couple, but it soon becomes clear that the characters are completely inept at expressing their desires and listening to each other. Darcy didn't initially want a loud wedding, but she went along with her future spouse. Tom planned every detail of the celebration, but forgot to consider the opinion of his beloved. The rescue operation becomes an opportunity for the newlyweds to work as a team. It remains to get rid of the robbers, expose the traitors, help the dumbfounded relatives, and finally walk down the aisle without any misunderstandings or complaints about each other.
"Shotgun Wedding" will not join the collection of golden romantic comedies of all time. With a flat narrative, formulaic tropes and not particularly funny jokes, the picture burst into the filmography of famous stars certainly not for the rave reviews of critics. It's utterly hooligan entertainment, barely bringing you out of a state of boredom, but fulfilling the function of a thousand pictures of this sort - background viewing while cooking, manicuring, cleaning.
