War of the Worlds 4K 2005 Ultra HD 2160p

No one would have believed at the beginning of the 21st century that everything developed on Earth is vigilantly and closely watched by beings more developed than humans; that while people went about their business, they were explored and studied. With infinite complacency scurried people around the globe, busy with their deeds, confident in their power over matter. Meanwhile, through the abyss of space, the Earth was watched with eyes full of envy, creatures with a highly developed, cold, insensitive intellect, and slowly but surely worked out their plans that were hostile to us ...

The action takes place today. Ray Ferrier is not just another savior of the world and not a new comic book superhero. He is a simple man who is simply trying to save his family in a deadly nightmare spanning the whole Earth - an invasion of hostile giant aliens.

War of the Worlds 4K Review
So far, among the blockbusters of the second quarter of the year, “War Of The Worlds” (2005) took an honorable third place after “Batman: the Beginning” / Batman Begins / (2005) and “Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith” / Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith / (2005) (Sin City / (2005) is not embedded). The film is quite understandable in all its technological victories and dramatic defeats. Most infuriating hype in the media around any dark horse impersonating a blockbuster. Ah, the budget (130 million), oh, science fiction, oh, Steven Spielberg ...

But, apparently, Spielberg has recently lived exactly, evenly, calmly, like a plant. Only occasionally flying to Paris for another Garter or receiving guests at a wedding, a silver wedding, or in extreme cases, a funeral at one’s own ranch (in one’s own house, in a rented restaurant) is like a lot of life impressions, like the gossips. The rest is on TV. Such a rhythm of existence cannot but affect the work of the director. It’s good for me in America, they come across America, and it’s completely unclear who and how, and how to push them now, reptiles. Sami die, in short. After all, what is America famous for? She is famous for her ability to survive. She does not seek meaning in life, because initially everything was violet to her, except for receiving guests (at a wedding, a silver wedding, a funeral). All that is needed is for a living American to bury everyone. To do this, he will go all the way to the outskirts and he will kill everyone, if necessary, and get used to any microbes, infections, immunodeficiencies - and even to completely destroy the atmosphere. There will be no oxygen, and the Americans will, and with the graves they will dig the foundation for the new White House. The logic is iron. True, in this case, the American himself is akin to a microbe, and such logic becomes a complete substitute for what the "War of the Worlds" was once written about. But on the other hand, who read it?

First, Tom Cruise, with two siblings, a boy and a girl, long escorts his parents to his parents, pregnant with a third. Then the offspring brought him to a headache for a long time: calling from the “relationship” is absolutely traditional for disaster films. Longish, but bearable. Then the catastrophe itself begins, after a thunderstorm, aliens climbed out from under the ground in "tripods" and began to destroy everything. Cruz will traditionally have to save the offspring and through all obstacles and slingshots move to the former. The answer was thought up successfully, as the aliens found themselves underground. They buried the "Tripods" as if a million years ago, before the birth of mankind, and now, having materialized from thunder with lightning, they simply dug it out. The idea is epochal, eschatological. Then Spielberg got off his son no less successfully for a while, turning him into a young anti-fascist patriot who remained at the forefront and took on the role of a madman from the basement of Tim Robbins. Next to the nasty little Tom Cruise, healthy Robbins is somehow comforting. And also a hassle in the basement, when a periscope snake came across its own reflection in the mirror, is also traditional for disaster films. Nevertheless, the tension increases due to an increasingly expressive picture of the alien riot, and you begin to wait for the traditional apotheosis of horror. Maybe in these conditions - and not a decisive battle, not battles, and even more so not victories in them, but some kind of globalization, generalization. Let it end, like Herbert Wells, but - according to the law of the genre - only after all the declared horror comes together and shoots.

But no. Nothing like this. Building up his expectation in separate situations, Spielberg, as if nothing had happened, forgot that the war was going on with all of humanity, with the whole planet Earth, and suddenly he again went deep into "relations" and returned to his family. Instead of a "catastrophic" peak - only an afterword with words on the screen, which, to put it mildly, is strange. You go out puzzled and understand everything only in the light of what has been said about an even, even way of life. Ideological substitution has led to dramatic discrepancies. It would be better to read the novel. Herbert Wells, a single intellectual, faced an insoluble problem. Martians are stronger. In the course of their invasion, the problem of the survival of earthlings is all insoluble and insoluble, until a purely intellectual exit is found, as a loner argues and testifies. This is not an action movie, but a more treatise, but quite finished and logical. Spielberg’s treatise contains all the military stuff, only the intellect is replaced by “family values”, and evidence is replaced by actions, and the problem has narrowed greatly. She stepped into the background next to the action hero. Only in this case Cruz is again not a hero, but an empty place, because the whole problem also becomes an empty place. Where is the promised action movie, where is the solution? Only from the cinema? From the point of view of dramaturgy, “War of the Worlds” - damn those. With his complete peace of mind and the only fear - “who again ran into America” - Spielberg took off not a variation, but a degradation of the genre, which, in America, I think will not work. The epic was not enough.

However, the film is not to say that it is a failure. You can watch it - just knowing what to look at. In his traditional merit, in the originality of special effects and image quality, Spielberg is still good. A gloomy gray atmosphere, turning into night - pure in color, healthy and beautiful. Correctly destroys people beam "tripods." The steel "pins" are impressive, on which a person is planted like a butterfly. The scene inside the "tripod" is one of the most spectacular. In it, perhaps, there is even its own metaphysics. Instead of the vent of the volcano or the center of the storm, the vent is also shown, only red-meat. A kind of lips with a tail, followed by a deep throat, which, however, in its bottomlessness does not give pleasure, but sucks out blood. Sucker - one at all and everyone sucks, do not worry. But a move was ingeniously invented as she was defeated. It is good that the aliens appear only once.
