The film drew a loud title, no less impressive photo on the cover and Christian Bale in the role of the villain. What I saw surprised and impressed me. This was not at all what I expected. At first glance, this is a thriller about a killer maniac, and on the second, a serious psychological drama, not about a particular person, but about a society of which he is a part.

I didn’t read the book American Psycho UHD, but, as it’s not the first time that I’ve seen me after watching a movie, I’ll definitely get to know the original source. I was very interested in this story. The film makes a strange impression: right after watching the first thing that I felt was bewilderment and a complete mess in my head. But the next day, oddly enough, he did not evaporate from there, but on the contrary, settled there firmly and did not give me rest all day, does not give me now. Perhaps this story was not completely understood by me, but I will try to explain my feelings.

Patrick Bateman is a young man working on Wall Street, whether the owner of a large company or a co-owner is unimportant. He is rich, handsome, obsessed with his appearance and expensive clothes. He has a bride, a mistress, a social circle consisting of young people like him and an excellent apartment in the center of the city. There is one thing: inside it would be empty if it were not for the enormous amount of hatred towards everything around, which turns into a desire to kill. He kills, but in general, everyone who succeeds: a homeless, casual acquaintance, or an unfamiliar, it does not matter ... And he can no longer stop, the desire grows, completely subjugating him to himself, and he doesn’t particularly resist.

Regarding Patrick Bateman, I can say one thing, I have never seen such a disgusting protagonist of the film. And of course I do not mean the performance - Christian Bale is as good as ever - but the personality of the character himself. It contains all the possible and impossible human vices. Fantastic malice, envy, narcissism, turning into a delusions of grandeur, absolute egoism, inability to feel towards others, indifference and all-consuming hatred. Oh, I forgot ... another hypocrisy.

His life is useless and empty: at work he is only concerned about putting him on a regular dinner in a restaurant, friends are only needed to approve a suit or business card, or listen to his pompous statements about racial discrimination, crime among young people, and her methods elimination, and women - only to meet physiological needs. His only difference from those like him is that he fills his leisure with the only thing he does well - killing. The reason is not needed, they can be any little thing.

The soul of the protagonist turned out to be an extremely fertile ground for absolute madness in American Psycho Ultra HD, dictated by disgust for everything around, and manic passion flourishes in it in a lush color. By the way, the film was made extremely unusual for a similar subject. In a sort of rollicking satirical style. The characters are shown with a mixture of caricature, the director seems to mock the world of the protagonist, his empty, useless, dusting existence and his progressive madness.

The film puzzled. But thinking about him more and more, you come to the conclusion that everything that is happening already really does not matter. What does it matter how many murders you committed, or did not commit them at all, if nobody cares? Psychopaths, and not only American ones, can be as many as you want, and they can do whatever they want, and they will be completely unimportant. Because this world is ruled by indifference, vanity and egoism. Probably so....
