The Hate U Give 4K - A teenage girl from the black ghetto Starr is torn between two worlds - her home in a troubled poor neighborhood and a prosperous school where she learns with white children. Starr's situation is complicated when she becomes the only witness to the police shooting at her unarmed friend suspected of drug trafficking in film The Hate U Give 4K.
The Hate U Give 4K Review
Schoolgirl with an unusual name Starr (apparently, bow to the great song of Boris Gardiner) is 16 years old, and her life is already divided into two worlds. The first is family, childhood friends and a small home in a poor ghetto, the second is a prestigious white school, white friends and the same white boyfriend. After another transition from the second world to the first, she goes to the district party, where she meets her childhood friend and part-time first love named Khalil, who seems to have taken the path of least resistance and became a dealer. On the way back, they are stopped by a white policeman, who, having taken a comb for a gun, kills a guy. The parallel worlds of the girls begin to collide, and she herself has to rebel against the obvious injustice.
The 2018th can be called the year of the sharpest American cinema - the problems of African Americans are talented, but not always successfully told in the films “Black Panther”, “Sorry for Trouble”, “Black Clanman” and The Hate U Give 4K. Now it is the turn of the film adaptation of the best seller of the same name and favorite of progressive youth. Judging by the unanimously enthusiastic reviews of Western critics, the film The Hate U Give 4K definitely hit the nerves of American society and in the language of adolescents began talking about really important things. However, removing the glasses with the words “the main thing is the message,” while viewing, you can see that “your hatred” is a ridiculously bad movie.
Apparently, the creators immediately thought about their target audience, so they decided not to risk it and thought instead of them, removing all the semitones from the movie. They even made a visual cue especially talented: the color correction of all the scenes in the ghetto was done in homely yellow tones, and the world of hypocritical whites (not only the school, but also the girlfriend and boyfriend’s home), on the contrary, lacks content and looks faded and cold. The same neatly packaged on good and bad are the characters around the heroine. Here is the father - a former felon who served someone else's time to leave the game and settle down. That killed friend is a dealer who had no choice, because grandma has cancer, and her mother is sitting on a crack.
On the other side of the barricades is a murderous policeman who, surprisingly, is shown not as a racist, but as a victim of prejudice. In the same place, the stereotypical best friend, who suddenly declares to the heroine in a basketball game “play like a ball is a fried chicken,” and then completely sympathizes with the policeman’s family. And finally, the main villain is not a system with its long-stagnant racism, but the leader of the local gang, King, who may be affected by drug and political attention by the press and the police. In case the viewer doesn’t see the villain in the character (unfortunately, they didn’t think of distinctive haloes and devil horns), he was given another mistake: when Starr was 10 years old, King killed her best friend in a shootout when they played Harry Potter . The heroine still remembers her and keeps her nominal magic wand, so she decides to surrender King, because "the rules of informers no longer work."
It is even a shame, but it is hardly possible to single out at least something hopeless in “your hatred”. Is that the actors sometimes try to play a role in time with the dramatic music to make the scene more emotional. To all appearances, the bloated 23 millionth budget went to obscenely - exactly the same, for example, the above mentioned “Blind spots”, “Sorry for the trouble” and “Black Klanovets” and The Hate U Give 4K are in total. True, they were removed talentedly (compare with the local reception of different color corrections), and interracial scabs are ripped off with humor in general. “Your hatred”, on the contrary, is devoid of irony and looks like senile cinema, which, in fact, destroys excessive seriousness. Here, jokingly, the heroine’s brother is called Seven (in honor of the seventh point of the Black Panthers program to put an end to police brutality and the unfair murder of black people), and the catharsis corresponds to the final Mexican confrontation between the heroine’s father, King and her seven-year-olds ( !) brother.
When the heroine with a happy face in the final picks up his wand from Khalil’s room and promises to become a lawyer to fight against injustice in another pathos monologue, even the worst movie has the right to success, especially if its sociopolitical agenda is not at all embarrassed beat the viewer's forehead.
