Teen sci-fi drama "No One Will Save You" will tell the story of an outcast girl named Brynn Adams (Catherine Deaver from "An Education"), a creative and well-rounded individual with a subtle mind and problems with emotional communication. In an attempt to escape her approaching depression, Brynn returns home and at one point finds solace within her family walls, but sudden visitors from a galaxy far, far away disturb her hard-won peace.

No One Will Save You 4K Review
Brynn (Caitlin Dever) lives far from the big city and rarely leaves the house. One night she is invaded by an alien - the girl strives to survive at all costs and in the process faces her own past - no less terrifying than the aggressive aliens.

Internal monologues and dialogues are ineradicable. Every minute we berate or comfort ourselves, we ignore the brain signals or listen to them. "No One Will Save You," the new project of streaming service Hulu and director and screenwriter Brian Duffield ("Spontaneity"), combines different inspirations, from Spielberg to Garland, from "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" to the recent "Boundless Night"; near the finale, references to the cornerstone "The Twilight Zone" are prominent. The guilt of the past here accompanies the present and dictates the future almost without a word, making this mix of sci-fi, horror, thriller and drama one of the most inventive and poignant films of the fall.

Brynn is going to the post office and can't decide on a dress (it's green, after all). The townspeople universally hate the girl - the reasons will be told in the epilogue - so she must proceed with caution, ducking behind the wheel of the car. Along the way, Brynn visits her late mother's cemetery, creates dollhouses to order and for herself, writes letters to her best friend by the lake, and dances to old records. It's getting evening, dusk and flying saucers are falling: it's unknown why the aliens chose this town to invade, but one thing is clear - they won't leave without Brynn, no matter how carefully she locks the doors.

The one-and-a-half-hour running time doesn't allow either the heroine or the audience to release tension. Enthusiastic Duffield, whose "Spontaneity" similarly worked with alien practices, transferring them to teenagers, masterfully builds and meticulously details the space, stylizes it in the 1970s, almost as much time is devoted to the psychology of Brynn. The girl, like her fortress-house, becomes a full-fledged warrior in the battle with extraterrestrial civilization, but the main battle is fought inside. Brynn is lonely, isolated from society, traumatized and despised for an unforgivable tragedy that happened in her childhood. The police station spits on her, the church closes its doors, the phone goes off with threats - it is this kind of ostracism that seems to attract the aliens and makes them take a hunting interest.

In fact, the tape is a mono-performance of Caitlin Deaver: the star of "Education" and mini-series "Impossible to Believe" confirms the status of one of the most talented actresses of the generation, continues to participate in original productions, unconventionally presents the material, masterfully demonstrates the fragility and intransigence. Having killed the first alien with a shard to the head, Brynn as the final girl holds many more surprises for the uninvited guests, chief among them her genuine identity and emotionality.

Inner monologues and dialogues are ineradicable, but sometimes silence alone rules, and words cannot express half of the pain that overcomes. The only phrase that Brynn utters in the movie becomes "I'm sorry," one of the main trump cards and indicators left to humanity. "No One Can Save You" agrees with its own title, but urges us to take the initiative into our own hands, to grieve, heal and make the momentous decision to move on.
