Duncan Jones's “Moon 2112 UHD”, in which the lone Rockwell dispatcher deals with wonders at the lunar station, demonstrates real rarity - clever science fiction.

The dispatcher (Sam Rockwell) of the powerful moon 4K mining corporation, the notorious helium-3, replacing exhausted hydrocarbons on Earth, is getting ready to take a shift, having spent three years in the company of apparatus-devices, a punctual robot who knows how to cut hair and speaks in the voice of Kevin Spacey, and communicates with the video messages of his wife. Naturally, in such a lonely setting, this right person, who believes in America and rock and roll, began to have glitches: a naked teenage girl began to walk around the sterile station, out of nowhere, and in a broken moon 4K rover the dispatcher finds a barely living copy of himself beloved. From the robot, which was reconnected at the sight of such a turn of events, you will not get the truth. Earth, frowningly assessing the situation, sends an emergency team, before which there is time to find out what all this really means.

For those who delved into the history of the science fiction genre over the past forty years, Duncan Jones' debut work will evoke the right associations with the courageous aesthetics of the 70s, when the frame was stuffed to the eyeballs with incomprehensible equipment on colored LEDs, and romantic bearded men in spacesuits, who pressed the buttons far from mother earth, they were simple and honest workers of space. The director does not hide his sympathies, and among sources of inspiration he calls, for example, “Silent Running” / Silent Running / (1971) - a space adventure of the very turn of the 70s, very similar in surroundings, and the first “Alien” (1988). In general, deja vu at the sight of a child walking around the station and psychedelic doubles should not be misleading here: “Solaris” (1972) and Philip Dick Jones were not going to surprise anyone, more likely with the good old Robert Sheckley or checked by old Clark. Although at some point it seems that the hallucinogenic alien virus has infiltrated the dispatcher, and from around the corner the preoccupied Donatas Banionis will come out to the music of Eduard Artemyev.

For those who are not going to delve into the history of the genre and are not going to delve into, “Moon Ultra HDR” is a good opportunity to see a smart and sane sci-fi story, under the guise of which, for the last twenty years, they usually give comics for children with brain defects. Rockwell Kent finally waited for an excellent leading role - multiplied by two, and at the same time the only leading one in the whole picture. Yes, and Kevin Spacey, too, who speaks for the robot not in his own voice, although such pieces of iron also finished releasing commercials in the year 76. In short, everyone from the film will be satisfied, and they didn’t spend five million dollars on this little lunar adventure for nothing: others spend all fifty for no purpose.


Another thing is that if in the phrase “science fiction” you emphasize the second part, “Moon Ultra HDR ”will surprise you a little: that would be the kind of lunar production films, if the Americans didn’t curtail the Apollo program.
