Tech genius Ken Castle has combined a video game with a reality TV show into a multiplayer game called The Killers, which has become the habitat of local criminals. John Tillman, a suicide bomber, must take part in the Game in order to go free, but to the players he is merely a controlled character in the game.
Gamer 4K ReviewThe near future. In the most popular computer game on the planet, the heroes are living convicts: they have nanocells implanted in their brains, with the help of which they are controlled by gamers. Gamer" is a direct heir to the blood sport movies of the future, packs of them released in the 80's. This action film is likely to be forgotten as quickly as "The Running Man" with Schwarzenegger, but it still stands out from its predecessors for its exceptional fervor.
It's a very energetic shooter, but the peaceful scenes look like colorful acid hell, too: Taylor and Neveldine, the writers of the two Adrenaline movies, paint a bleak future in extremely bright colors. No plan lasts longer than two seconds, everyone makes disgusting faces and behaves as unnaturally as possible (psychiatry has a term for this, "hebephrenia"). The most honest man in the crazy world is Gerard Butler's character, a super-successful character in a bloody show who dreams of leaving the game and returning to his wife and daughter. He kills a few dozen people every day, of course, but he doesn't cringe.
Taylor and Neveldine are fascinated by this painful future. They are terribly interested in creating it. They read the moral, of course, but they don't really want the game to end. Although in the case of these two guys, the game will only end when the producers stop giving them money for energy drinks. And that's probably not going to happen anytime soon.
