In the story John Kramer goes to Mexico to try out a new experimental treatment for cancer. The clinic is gleaming with cleanliness, the staff smiles and promises John a speedy recovery, and the chief doctor promises to cut out all the tumors and rid the patient of the infection. But soon after returning from the clinic John turns to his former doctor and finds out that he was deceived - the operation took place, but no one thought to cut out the tumors. The staff of the Mexican clinic took a large sum of money from him for nothing, expecting in this way to deceive another desperate patient. But John is not one to forgive. He gathers the whole group of doctors in one room and starts the game.

Killer engineer John Kramer (Tobin Bell) learns that he has only a short time to live because of terminal cancer. He receives news about a miracle cure, which is forbidden in the United States. Not thinking long John goes to Mexico, where they can operate on the brain and pump a number of experimental drugs - the salvation lies in the so-called Pederson method. It soon becomes clear that both the smiling Cecilia Pederson (Sunneve Makodu Lund) and her staff are frauds, and the whole "miracle surgery" is a scam by the dying Kramer for money. The deceived Constructor prepares a revenge plan and involves his apprentice Amanda (Shawnee Smith), in a large warehouse Kramer is plotting a deadly game.

Over the course of its twenty-year history, while shoring up everyone's legs and experimenting with traps, "Saw" has moved extremely dashingly: from an original thriller in the vein of David Fincher's "Seven" to torture porn and coincidentally a soap opera. The franchise had formed its own musical notation: death traps, engineer of sadism John Kramer, rotation of his henchmen, Hello Zepp on the credits - the authors only had to hit the same keys. At some point, everyone got tired: the blood spilled with inspiration lost its freshness, the traps rusted, and from the philosophical killer Tobin Bell remained only flashbacks. Jubilee "Saw" came to correct the situation - the tape willingly returned to the time when Kramer was looking for a way to save himself from advanced cancer. As we remember, already in the fourth film, the audience was deprived of a cunning maniac, but he and from the other world prepared for the deadly game, carefully selected heirs.

Getting into the gap between the first and the second movie - a refreshing move for the franchise, which after the ninth "Saw" with Chris Rock was not afraid to call it a total failure. Veteran viewers, of course, are unlikely to be surprised by anything - after nine parts of the movie series, tolerance is surely developed, but director Kevin Grotert has his own method. The movie is much more talking than actually sawing (the first hour is expositional), Kramer's motivations are even clearer, flat, but, let's venture to say, reasonable - the hustlers face the vengeful anger of a maniacal constructor who was left without money and hopes. The traditional grand guignol is also attached to the picture: we have already seen the best atrocities, but there is also a place for spectacular exits - vacuum tubes for eyes, for example, will definitely become a hallmark of the movie, and self-operation on the brain can impress, and other nauseatingly fascinating tricks, this time played out with a bias in the fun science of surgery. Since the hero-killer is in another country, he assembles his mechanisms in the redi-maid mode, without the engineering sophistication: what is available will do.

There are weaknesses that the authors could not resist (so, however, still somewhere from the second part) - while the meat is sliced and the guts are coiled, they should dig the story to the emotional core. It's not Kramer who's the villain, it's the world - especially the American health care system, which left the dying Constructor no chance, much less the crooks from Mexico City. Until "Saw" whitewashed the main sadistic engineer and showed a crazy scumbag, the franchise had some incorruptible power, now Tobin Bell's character was rewarded with an understandable moral compass, scheming with even bigger villains. And this, however, can be treated with indulgence - Tobin Bell, without a doubt, gives the best output of his character on the screen - already fragile, but not at all devoid of a cold analytical mind.

Inquisitorial traps work, bones crunch convincingly, the plot as a plot, you won't care about it as soon as you get nauseous: the tenth "Saw" traditionally gives a catchy torture show. Unexpectedly, the authors have added self-irony - Darren Lynn Bousman lacked it, and in some places, the character lines were twisted - now the characters of Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith are not rag dolls, but anti-heroes with quite convincing maniacal chemistry. All in all, "Saw 10" is the franchise's return to form, an anniversary outing that is deservedly being labeled as one of the most sober, inventive, and colorful. And it was just a matter of deviating a bit from the soapy-serial flavor of recent installments and taking John Kramer to Mexico.
