After Skynet’s computer defense system gained intelligence and bombarded humanity with atomic bombs, gloomy times came on Earth. One of the leaders of the Resistance, John Connor, is destined to upset the gloomy balance - during a raid on the Skynet base he finds access codes for radio frequencies at which the terminators receive commands. The resistance begins to prepare for a decisive attack, but Connor is more worried about something else - turning a photograph of Sarah Connor in his hands, he thinks how to save a boy named Kyle Reese, who, having gone to the past, should become his father. Soon, Connor will have a strange ally who also wants to take care of the guy - a certain Marcus, convicted to death before the Skynet bombing, a criminal who, in an unknown way to himself, after execution, instead of that light woke up in an apocalyptic future.

For those who have missed Terminator for the past twenty years, we can say that yes - the appearance of Arnold Schwarzenegger promised by director McGee will take place. Not personally, of course, but computer technology provides a pretty decent copy of Schwartz. Amazement, however, is not caused by the ever-young T800, but the fact that Terminator 4 Ultra HD turned out to be more like Pearl Harbor / 2001 than its predecessors. McGee made a large-scale war film, with battles in the air and at sea, with landing operations, minefields and everything else that this genre implies. The fact that on the enemy’s side are not fascist helmets, but rusty bloodthirsty bots doesn’t make much difference.

This epic militaristic swing put the actors in a strange position - in American war films, Stanislavsky lies with his feet to the explosion and does not twitch. Therefore, Christian Bale, who played Connor, the hope of humanity, and who played Riza Anton Yelchin, like all others, mostly make a military look and demonstrate a sports (and military) uniform. Something similar happened once with the third “Matrix”. This, in its own way, is convenient - you can focus on terminators, which are many in the film and they are all different. The most unpleasant is waterfowl, similar to steel eel. The fastest is motorcycle. The worst is the 15-meter Reaper. A military attraction flies over the atomic hills almost without a stop, and who is already looking at whose photograph, and who is looking for whom, it becomes completely unimportant.

And the salvation of mankind becomes important - the thing is too abstract to empathize with. Ultimately, the first film was not about time travel or giant humanoid robots - Terminator, The / (1984) spoke in B-movie about a man’s fight with an extermination angel, “Terminator 2: Judgment Day "/ Terminator 2: Judgment Day / (1991) - about the angel of extermination, who decided not to exterminate. Good and evil had such a visible and ruthless form in them that later, it seems, only the Coens, who released Anton Chigur on the screen, managed to achieve a similar effect.

In Terminator 4 UHD, the extermination angels are just dangerous pieces of iron, and Skynet is no longer an ominous i-God, but just a supercomputer. In his own way, McGee restarted the Terminator saga in the most relevant manner. There is no one to empathize with, the war with Skynet has no end and humanity, like the viewer, can only watch with admiration as the bombs burst.
