I liked this Hellboy 4K movie Restarting the popular movie comic franchise. This time, Hellboy (David Harbor) will have to go to England to save the world from the apocalypse that Merlin’s wife, Bloody Queen Nimue (Milla Jovovich), who dreams of taking revenge on humanity for the centuries spent in captivity, is going to arrange it. But no matter how desperately Hellboy did not want to overcome medieval evil, his battle with the Blood Queen and the armada of monsters in itself can lead to the end of the world, which our hero is trying to avoid. A good quality film Hellboy 4K.
Hellboy 4K ReviewOnce upon a time, the evil Blood Queen Nimue tried to destroy the entire population of Britain by sending a plague on them. So she intended to end the eternal war between people and monsters, but when it came time to make peace, King Arthur (the same one) and the wizard Merlin (the same one) treacherously killed Nimue, chopped into pieces, pulled into chests and buried at different ends Britain.
Many centuries later, Hellboy UHD - hellish fiendishness, brought up by man and now helping people to fight off all evil spirits - goes to England on assignment. Soon, he finds himself in the center of a conspiracy connected with a certain prophecy, and his long-standing enemy just intends to revive Nimue in order to take revenge on Hellboy UHD.
As the classic used to say, "be afraid of your desires - they tend to come true." So the fans of “Hellboy Ultra HDR”, who have long advocated for a new film of a long-suffering franchise - so that with a rating of R, but with blood, and with guts - apparently will have to rejoice not for long. They heard their prayers, but, as often happens in gloomy tales, they slightly perverted and instead of the promised carriage they gave out a pumpkin, in which the seats are harsh and the aerodynamics are lame. We really got a new “Hellboy Ultra HDR”, it’s really bloody, cruel and uncompromising, it seems to be a real guilty pleasure, a thoughtless funny movie that the evil foreign critics obviously did not understand (I recall a great meme for all occasions). But everything in reality is much simpler, and there is no need to multiply entities: Hellboy Ultra HDR simply did not work out.
The film exchanged melodic romanticism for a maximalist protest, Del Toro's visionary plastics for unprepossessing producer dullness (director Neil Marshall, according to rumors, did not decide much on the set). He is not very willing to compare it with the dilogue of the zeros: it is an obvious one-goal game, and painfully different orientations are taken. The new “Hellboy 4K” is a movie with teenage audacity and the corresponding performance: inconsistent, hypertrophied and hyperactive, unable to stop for a second and think about why and who needs it. Important story bits here can be stretched by bubbling flashbacks (of which there are many, and all about one), or they can be located five seconds apart with such a density of events that the “King Arthur's Sword” will seem to you a viscous arthouse.
Until the middle of the film, his tactlessness and bad taste seem bearable and even cute, and the movie itself is interesting at least as a phenomenon (quite symptomatic, by the way). But by the end, Hellboy UHD loses its last sense of proportion, rhythm, taste and reality, shows the Boshanian monsters in a feverish kaleidoscope and reduces everything to a dull heroic morality that fate is not fate and it’s time to grow eggs for everyone (without forgetting to shout between the lines about equality and fraternity). All this under the incessant accompaniment of stencil dialogues directed, it seems, not so much to the heroes, but somewhere in the hall. They resemble interactive “bubbles” from comics, and the film itself looks like something like glued comic panels. Hence the grotesque and unbearable dynamics - “Hellboy UHD” is much more interested in how the scenes look inside the conditional “page” than inside the whole film.
All this is not necessarily bad, and it was quite possible to praise the film with exactly the same words, if you keep at least some interesting expressiveness behind your stupidity. And in some places he tries: there is, for example, a curiously set action scene with giants and other similar somersaults, but all of them lack banal directorial skill. At best, they look plasticine, at worst - like cut scenes from a game for the PlayStation 2. Perhaps the budget is to blame - too small to carry out all the gigantic plans at the proper level, but too big to turn on the head and start invent. All that remains is that throwing yourself into the screen (literally, right into the lens) with human insides and stinging so often that even a couple of quite successful ones are lost behind unsuccessful barbs.
“Hellboy UHD” is completely sure that it is enough to throw liters of blood on the screen, and the movie somehow suddenly becomes cheerful, reckless and incredibly funny. He revels in violence worse than any other exploitation, to which Marshall's film is clearly gravitated. But in order to be a good “trash”, he should stop giggling at the mere mention of blood - it reminds one more of the dream of a misanthrope child: meat, matyuki, murders and half-naked Milla Jovovich. The film is hardly sincere in its exploitation, and therefore praising him for cruelty is perhaps as stupid as starting a review of Hellboy UHD with a quote from Bulgakov.
