Florida has fallen victim to a nightmarish hurricane that destroys everything in its path. However, the main character Haley is not going to evacuate and goes to find her missing father. She finds him in serious condition in the basement of the house, which becomes a trap for both of them. But as it turns out, that's not the worst thing they have to go through.

In 2019, Quentin Tarantino named 'The Trap' the best movie of the year. In fact, that's the main reason I decided to watch it.

A young swimmer, forced to rescue herself and her father from a flooded basement with alligators during a devastating hurricane in Florida.

Already the synopsis shows that the film is built on tried-and-true storylines: man versus beast, man versus the elements, and the problems of fathers and children. But these plots hardly suffice for the 85-minute running time of 'The Trap'. The scriptwriters came up with all possible situations connected with aggressive alligators in an enclosed space, but there were not many of them.

Director of 'The Trap' Frenchman Alexander Azha made a name for himself with strong bloody horror movies 'Mirrors', 'Bloody Harvest', remakes of 'The Hills Have Eyes' and 'Piranha'. In 'The Trap' the blood and dismemberment are also present, but they are noticeably less and less imaginative. Although the alligator's underwater attacks are well presented.

The main heroine is played by not bad actress Kaya Scodelario. It is not the first time she plays the girls escaping from difficult life situations. It was nice to see Barry Pepper as the father, the sniper from 'Saving Private Ryan'. Perhaps their family's problems are best spelled out in the script. Almost all the other characters appear in the film only as meat.

One cannot ignore the work done with the huge amount of water: the flood scenes are impressive. But the special effects are pumped up: the drawn alligators are occasionally striking.

Alexander Azha failed to scare me with 'Trap': the alligators are artificial, the suspense is not created, the screamers are expected. So I do not agree with Tarantino, it is definitely not the best film of 2019. Although he considered 'Trapdoor' 'in terms of pure filmmaking'.
