A sequel to the adventures of Scott Lang, better known as Ant-Man, will be the first film in Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The action will most likely take place after the events of Avengers: The Final Solution. Scott Lang and his lover Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), as well as Hope's parents Hank (Michael Douglas) and Janet (Michelle Pfeiffer), will embark on an exciting journey through the Quantum World, which will be key to the development of the through plot of the entire new phase of the CWM.

The "Ant-Man" sequel starring Paul Rudd is probably the last film in Scott Lang's solo line and the first Marvel Phase 5 picture to be fully revealed in the coming years. We're treated to a new team of superheroes and another set of supervillains whose power and majesty are every bit as powerful as the titan Thanos (Josh Brolin), who once stripped 50% of the planet of humanity. Peyton Reed, the director of the Ant-Man trilogy, had a big challenge, not only to end the story with flying colors with Scott Lang, but also to tie it in with the parallel storylines of the MCU universe. Specifically, viewers needed to be introduced to Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors), who made his debut appearance in the first season of the Loki series in the summer of 2021.

"Quantomania" is set a few months after the events of "Avengers: The Final." Scott Lang has abandoned his superhero career to become a popular writer; his daughter Cassie (Catherine Newton), on the other hand, is passionate about social activism and technology. Somehow Cassie managed to invent a mechanism capable of making contact with the quantum world. Alas, during the first test of the device, a terrible thing happened: Cassie suddenly opened a portal that dragged herself, as well as Scott, Hope (Evangeline Lilly), Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) into the Quantum Realm, which is not an easy task to get out of.

After the rather mediocre sequel to Ant-Man, the third installment of the superhero adventures was looked down upon by many. The two first films from Peyton Reed definitely lacked originality (as all the Marvel pictures) and, strange as it may seem, humor. Scott Lang - the eternal child with the inherent infantilism of all children and fixation on himself. It is difficult to perceive him as a serious defender of the planet, in this respect Ant-Man is more like Spider-Man - a friendly neighbor, able to perfectly support any dialogue and add a couple of tenacious witticisms to the plot. It's this characteristic of Lang that new series writer Jeff Loveless, author of episodes of the American version of "The Office" and the Rick and Morty animated series, has taken advantage of. Loveless brought a much-needed comic edge to the "Quantomania" script, allowing Lang to just be himself. At the same time, Paul Rudd finally got a chance to unleash his comic potential, which has also long been unchecked, in all its glory. Simply put, the "Ant-Man" threequel is just a very funny movie that wants and can make the audience feel good.

The other obvious credit to Loveless is the idea of turning "Quantomania" into a kind of allusion to Lewis Carroll's "Alice in Wonderland" and "Alice in Looking Glass." The journey to the Quantum Realm resembles a fall down an infinitely deep rabbit hole, Scott changes his size every now and then, shrinking to the size of an ant and turning into a real giant, the characters meet an unprincipled Worm King in the person of Bill Murray and even a surrealistic version of Humpty Dumpty. At the same time the quantum world itself is made in the best traditions of "Star Wars" by George Lucas: with endless sandy landscapes, flying ships and other decorations, made in the style of retro-futurism - Disney has the rights to this fantastic franchise not for nothing.

It's possible that in the deluge of endless gags and visual beauties, the makers of Quantomania got a little lost in the plot: Scott's clash with Kang the Invader takes place without the usual for the genre tension and pathos, Lang's becoming a parent also looks rather strained, as if the characters simply lacked enough running time to be revealed. With all the drama in the background, the film may seem hollow, but at the same time it should be understood that the superhero genre has never really claimed to be the apogee of psychological human relationships, so it is definitely not a good idea to expect emotional outbursts from it.
