The Punisher 4K Review
The fact that modern remakes are not always better than the original film is no longer surprising. Old ideas in a new way are not always good, especially if they are trying to make several of one genre at once. If you look at the "The Punisher 4K" of 1989 with Dolphon Lundgren and compare it with the new one, it turns out that fifteen years ago they shot no worse, that is, progress - zero. In order to be convinced of this, it is enough to remember that the main character Frank Castle came to Hollywood from comics, and he punished the villains in extremely cruel and inventive ways.
The main mistake of the new The Punisher 4K UHD in the main character, Thomas Jane, doesn’t look like a stern avenger, who took his family and tried to blow him up. He is a great actor, but on his face there is no anger, nor cruelty, nor a thirst for retribution. He looks more like a policeman in a stylish Punisher Ultra HD costume, which methodically eliminates one bad guy after another, but does not express any emotions. The presence of John Travolta in the episode role is also incomprehensible; they show him very rarely here.
But who is remembered, it is Kevin Nash in the role of Russian. Such idiocy was not shown for a long time even in the most ridiculous action movie about “bad Russians”. In a computer game, it was interesting to run away from a two-meter pitching around the apartment and throwing his head at the TV. Here his character is so stupid and ridiculous that otherwise, as a parody, the scene with him is not perceived. In general, there are a couple of moments in the film with not the worst humor, but otherwise - an action movie with monotonous shooting and a couple of good, expensive explosions. Yes, there are beautiful angles, crossbow and stylish clothes of the protagonist.
However, unlike the original in 1989, there is absolutely no gloomy atmosphere with which the image of the main character is associated. The punisher Lundgren was gloomy and cruel, and at the same time there was a bit of irony in his actions. Punisher Jane is just too calm and calm, but since the face is not harsh, it looks rather strange. If you take this film as an action movie, it will seem very boring and not inventive, especially for 2004. If it’s like a drama, then it’s not clear how the Hollywood yumorok and the scene with the Russian brought here. It turns out neither this nor that, the creators, apparently, themselves did not decide in what way the initially tough hurricane fighter should be about the heavily armed avenger Frank Castle.
