Luke Hobbs is a Los Angeles special agent who regularly goes to the gym and raises a little daughter. Deckard Shaw is a former intelligence officer living in London. They are very fond of saving the world, but they hate each other, and sometimes the first is impossible without overcoming the conflict. They have to join forces after a dangerous virus that can wipe out humanity from its face falls into the wrong hands. The "Black Superman" Brixton, who was turned into a real killing machine, really wants to use the virus, and it can only be stopped by the ever-arguing Hobbs and Shaw 4K.
Director David Litch, responsible for the second Deadpool and Atomic Blonde, turned the Fast and the Furious spin-offs into a peppy buddy movie that still denies the laws of physics. Since in 2019 toxic masculinity finally began to go out of fashion, without a good dose of self-irony, the Hobbs and Shows would be rejected at the script stage. But everything worked out, here they not only shamelessly scoff at the canons of the action movie, but also bring the plot to complete absurdity, which sometimes makes it seem like you are watching a cartoon. The script looks like a draft of Mission Impossible 2, which was bathed in a bucket of steroids. And just because the film knows its place perfectly, it suits his hand.
Rock and State are generally a tandem to the insanity of the charismatic, on their chemistry, this whole adrenaline party keeps on. It’s priceless to watch how a couple threatens to knock out each other’s teeth or push a shoe so deep that “you have to blow your shoelaces”. To demand from an action movie about flying cars something more than jokes from the “stupid in your pants” series is an obviously notorious idea. The best part in this story is that the creators themselves perfectly understand this and gently amputate all the dramatic thoughts on the topic “family is the main thing”. Not a single complex facial expression for the entire timing has been identified.
A fun action is also available, although in many scenes the chase montage causes bouts of epilepsy. It seems that someone is chasing someone, but you stopped figuring out what was happening in this orgy of gasoline and adrenaline 5 minutes ago, because everything merges into one picture of an unnamed impressionist. Smoke diverges, and you can safely count the victims. The choreography of all the fights, although perfectly staged, is unfortunately not waiting for anything new in any dynamic scene. "Hobbs and the Show UHD" does not try to be an inventive action movie and does not bring anything new to the genre (the Ryan Reynolds cameo is not considered). And his tasks, apparently, are completely different - you also need to be able to juggle with a set of cliches mockingly. True, by the third act the film is completely exhausted. It seems that the plot has as many as two finals, and now the second, despite the amusing chase by helicopter with a trailer of five pickups, completely exhausts and lubricates the impression of the whole trip.
“Hobbs and the Show UltraHD” is a funny buddy movie that may not go down in history, but certainly will amuse the viewer. If you want to see how two not weak guys weighed each other with stars, and during breaks they funny jokes, then you came to the address. If you need a little cardboard drama for complete satisfaction, then the new Fast and the Furious with Dominic Toretto and family values are always made up on the printing press.
