Star Wars Episode VII The Force Awakens 4K Review
After a sad incident with one of his apprentices, Luke no longer feels free to instruct the Jedi, and he disappears, hiding somewhere in space. All attempts to find him are unsuccessful. Finally, Leia, who became the general of the rebel Resistance, finds a thread that could lead to her brother, and sends her best pilot, Po Dameron (Oscar Isaac) to find out all the details. Meanwhile, a young stormtrooper of the First Order (John Boyega) - that is, a soldier of the heirs of the Empire - decides that he will not shed the blood of innocent people. He is preparing an escape from the base, where his regiment is stationed. Soon, fate brings Poe and the stormtrooper together, and then throws them onto the deserted planet Jakku, where Rei (Daisy Ridley) got into the hands of the garbage collector the droid with the map Leia needs.

Before JJ Abrams was appointed director of the film, the producers considered the candidacy of David Fincher, Guillermo del Toro and Brad Bird
When director JJ Abrams and Disney Studios set about creating the seventh episode of Star Wars, they had two options. They could pull themselves up, come up with an original story and hope that the audience would accept it as well as they once accepted the very first “Wars”. They could also take the path of least resistance and clone the “New Hope”, already tested on the audience and awarded all sorts of praise. Guess on one try which path they chose when they decided that they would spend $ 200 million on the film and declare it the main release of 2015.

Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher had to lose weight significantly to fit into the images of the aged but taut Luc and Leia
Yes, you understood correctly. Like the Soviet leadership, who once thought it would be safer to copy an American atomic bomb than to let Kurchatov independently construct a superweapon, the Disney people ordered Abrams a copy of The New Hope. And he took it off. Of course, this is not exactly the same film, but the plot parallels can list several paragraphs. The main character (heroine) from a desert planet, a droid with a secret message embedded in it, an ominous and powerful enemy in a mask, flight to the Millennium Falcon, a space tavern with a bizarre audience, acquaintance with a famous old man from a previous era, imperial captivity and escape from him, another Death Star, a desperate attack by fighters, a climactic battle with lightsabers ... It seems that the scriptwriters of the film checked every step with the Lukas plot plan and only occasionally decided to move away from it.

Of course, it would be much better if the authors gave birth to a great new story. But commissioned such artistic feats are difficult to accomplish. And so, at least, they imitated an excellent picture, and their canvas came out more than successful. Especially from the point of view of an experienced fan who took prequels with hostility and yearned for “the same“ Wars ”.”

No ridiculous gunmen and ridiculous evoks, no trade negotiations and Senate frauds. Instead of political passions in the frame of human passion. Each of the main characters has their own desires and experiences, and when they collide, sparks fly from the screen - sometimes verbal, and sometimes real, from blasters and light swords. The picture spends a lot of time with new characters (primarily with the former stormtrooper Finn, Ray and their order enemy Enemy Kylo Ren), but does not forget the veterans. First of all, Han Solo, who not only comes to bask in the light, but turns out to be one of the central characters and, according to the tradition of the cycle, decorates many scenes. Unfortunately, none of the newcomers reach Harrison Ford's charisma, but this is not a problem in The Force Awakens. Why look for a Ford replacement if Superstar is in the arena all evening?

Another thing is that the more precisely Awakening follows the story plan of Hope, the clearer it becomes that the Lukasov film is stronger. So, the climax of the starship attack on Death Star 3.0 cannot be compared not only with the assault from Hope, but also with the assault from Return of the Jedi. No special effects can replace the luxurious intrigue that the plot questions raise, such as: “Will Luke get into the tiny exhaust hole?” "Awakening" does not ask such questions, and the attack comes down to an erratic firing in a hefty "pain point".

On the contrary, when a film is decided on a cardinal gag, it usually paints it. For example, Kylo Ren is not a copy of Darth Vader and not a veteran of the Dark Side, but a young character who recently served the Light. This gives him the psychological complexity that Vader did not have in Hope. True, this also weakens him as a villain. But the film was not supposed to make Kylo the most terrible and dangerous creature in the galaxy. He has a mysterious mentor, the Supreme Leader of the First Order of Snowk, who is clearly stronger and more severe. Therefore, it was enough to make the guy a scoundrel who wants to despise and hate. And this the authors of Awakening turned out to be five plus. The emotional complexity does not prevent Kylo from doing this, for which I really want to do something equally disgusting with him.

With the two main characters, Finn and Ray, the situation is not so brilliant. Rei is annoyed that everything is too easy for her. She learns in seconds what others have been learning for years. Ray, on the other hand, is an ideal feminist heroine who travels with men, but does not need their help, even when she gets into a hardcover. This is not Leia with her “Help, Obi-Wan Kenobi! You are my only hope! ” Ray had no crown in the closet, and she was used to helping herself, and if necessary, saving others.

In turn, the film is treated strangely with Finn. The tape either pushes him into the main characters, or pushes him into the background, as if he is embarrassed by his risky decision to put a guy with the physiognomy of John Boyegi at the center of Star Wars. In general, there is something in The Awakening from the elections in the American Democratic Party. On the one hand - a black man, on the other - a woman. Who is more important? Who is more politically correct? Puzzle! Fortunately, the fascination of the picture from these fluctuations hardly suffers. And, by the way, in the role that he was taken, Boyega is 100% in place. All fears about him were in vain.

What else is worth mentioning? About a drive that does not slow down, about convincing grandiose special effects, about picturesque real and painted landscapes, about a powerful conception and dramatic climax (an attack on Death Star 3.0 is just a small fraction), about an appropriate and funny humor in the middle of the picture, plenty "Fan service" for viewers who know the previous series of "Wars" by heart ... And that when the characters take up lightsabers, their fights look like real furious battles, and not like emasculated, soulless perfect fencing prequels. Two-plus hours of such a movie fly unnoticed.

There is a reason to criticize Awakening, and some obvious problems have already been named. But the film has more advantages than disadvantages. And if these are not the “Star Wars” that we wanted, then these are the “Wars” that we deserve. After all, no one would have cloned “Hope” if the original blockbusters were on average more successful than sequels and remakes!
