Thanks to revolutionary technologies that allow recalling the memories of previous generations, Callum Lynch resides in the adventures of his ancestor Aguilar in Spain in the 15th century. Callum finds out that he is a descendant of members of the mysterious secret society of assassins. Having accumulated incredible knowledge and skills, he comes into conflict with the powerful and brutal organization of the Templars in our day.
ReviewsAssassin's CreedAssassin's Creed is another video game adaptation. Failure? I would not say so. Luck? Very close, but because of the shortcomings in some plot twists, I can not call this screen version better than Prince of Persia and Warcraft. On the third place would put it easily. I also want to say that when I was a schoolboy, I was very much looking forward to the screen version of such games as Prince of Persia, Assassins Creed, Half-Life and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. The first two screen versions I received and remained pleased. Now I wait for the other two. And now I will go to the film itself.
The film Justin Kurzel on the game Assassins Creed tells of the centuries-old struggle between the two orders: the Order of the Knights Templar, advocating the absence of dissent in society and for general control, and the Order of the Assassins, who want the world to have freedom. And they all chase after one very important artifact - the apple of Eden. Yes, yes, that same one. The Templars are trying to get him, and the Assassins are trying to stop the Templars from getting it. It is logical, yes?
Two worlds.
Both in the game and in the movie Assassin's Creed, there are two parallel worlds: the real world and the past. The real world is the USA nowadays. The last world was Spain during the Inquisition of 1492. Having read on one of the Internet resources that 70% of the film will be in our time, I was upset. But in fact everything was not so bad. Our time is really a lot, but Spain of the XV century is enough to enjoy the scenery from the height of the eagle flight or during the persecution and jumping on the roofs. And, to be honest, "my" time I liked more, because there was a game of actors visible, and in the "past" by 90% the hero of Michael Fassbender jumped, ran, fought and killed. Especially, I want to highlight how the filmmakers decided to present the Animus. As we remember from the game, the hero went to the Animus and, plunged into a dream, was transferred to the past, but in the movie, the Animus is something like virtual reality glasses. The hero who lives in our time, connects to this device, is transferred to the past and repeats all the same movements as his ancestor in the distant past. And the way this transition between worlds is shown, especially during fights, is simply fascinating. This move is clearly in favor of the film's authors.
Parkour.
Parkour on the roofs and walls was shown very impressively. This impression I had only after watching the movie Yamaxi. For all the beauty of this action, the spectator, especially the fan of Assassins Creed, did not really show the "leap of Faith". He was, and even two, but there was no full-fledged. The first time Kal Lynch was frightened, and the second time was not a full jump, but some kind of a child. Because of this, I'm slightly unhappy.
Acting.
How can you bypass the game of actors, if the film involves two owners and one nominee for the Oscar? Exactly, in any way. Michael Fassbender played very convincingly a man who, not of his own free will, returned from the other world and turned out to be a puppet in other people's hands. Jeremy Irons played, as usual, impressively. His character is a leader in the shadow of leaders. The hero of Irons knows his purpose and is ready to give everything to reach it. A true leader. But Marion Cotillard in this movie failed. I have not seen such an indistinct game from actresses for a long time. She did not give her character at all. She just opened her mouth. There was only one episode when I saw that Cotillard was playing. That's all. Even in the end, when she had to show grief, she just squeezed a couple of teardrops, and then, most likely, it was a special pencil for tears. Of the secondary actors, Michael Kenneth Williams really liked it. His character turned out to be very charismatic, and most importantly, that Michael Kenneth Williams played his character. All the other characters in the second plan were mostly for extras.
Summing up, we can say that the film turned out to be above average. The main advantages: in general, a satisfactory play of actors, the transition between worlds, parkour, fights, eagle flights and music. Cons: a disastrous game Marion Cotillus, not enough of Spain in the 15th century and an overstretched ending. This is what follows: Justin Kurzel's film The Assassin's Creed was uniquely successful, as the failure is very far away. In my TOP-5 screenings of video games, he will definitely enter and not in the last fifth place.
