In the 1980s, the genre of "action comedy" was new to everyone. The films in which the heroes of Clint Eastwood and Charles Bronson sternly and laconically ruled the law with their own hands had just died down. It was spectacular, but they had as much humor as sturgeon caviar in the food of the poor man. The eighties opened the way for new heroes - Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone and Chuck Norris, who, although they replaced the old guard, but the result was the same.

Even when the script for Beverly Hills Cop was originally written, it was written with Sylvester Stallone in mind. His hero's name was Cobretti and he was a real threat of the underworld ... Probably, if Stallone had played in the film, he would have been spectacular, but it would not have been remembered in any way, only most likely as "another film with Stallone" in which it would have been 132 corpse. Or so. Most likely, the hero Stallone would not have left a stone unturned in Beverly Hills, because the film's budget exceeded $ 20 million. Paramount studio bosses refused to give that much money. As a result, Stallone was still able to play Cobretti in the "next action movie with Stallone" "Cobra", and the world saw an outright masterpiece of "comedy action movie", a sparkling fountain of humor, shooting and adventure "Policeman from Beverly Hills", since then how did Eddie Murphy come to the project ...

Having already shown himself well at "48 Hours", Eddie Murphy with this film cemented his status as a superstar and a wonderful comedian. This is actually one of his best roles. Forget Pluto Nash or Norbit. Before us is Axel Foley, a Beverly Hills cop, who was actually from Detroit, and he came to Beverly Hills to investigate the murder of his friend. He's cheeky. He's resourceful. He's funny. He firmly goes to his goal, although he is alone in a strange city, which, although very handsome outwardly, does not accept him so kindly. He's not a superhero. He is very thin, drives around in a car that has been asking for repairs for a long time and does not watch his sharp tongue. But it was this image that became very close to the people, as evidenced by the not sickly box office receipts. And this is exactly what Bruce Willis later reinforced in his own "Die Hard" ...

In addition to Eddie Murphy, the film also features a couple of detectives assigned to spy on Axel Fowley. Taggart and Rosewood (John Ashton and Judge Reinhold, respectively). They were so different that it was a pleasure to look at them. They were like a married couple who constantly quarrels and cannot come to a compromise.

The film, in my opinion, perfectly shows the difference between Detroit and Beverly Hills, and in particular, how the police officers who serve in these cities differ. The cops in Beverly Hills are polite, discreet, never lie and strictly follow the letter of the law. When Axel Foley was taken to the police station, he even noticed that his apartment was dirtier than the police car.

The city of Beverly Hills is generally regarded as a separate character in the film. It is unusually beautiful, fashionable, "glamorous" with all its streets and sights. Special thanks to the fact that in the film most of the scenes took place during the day, so that you can enjoy all these colors.

And I also want to touch on the music in the film. She is incomparable! In addition to the hit, which has already gone down in history as "Axel Fowley's melody", the film has some more wonderful musical compositions. Techno-pop and funk were popular in the 80s and here they are represented in the best possible way. Music and songs fit so well on the scenes in the film that it is absolutely impossible to imagine it without them!
