The Marine Biologist joins Kirk and the crew of Starship Enterprise on a mission of great importance. The near-Earth atmosphere can disappear as a result of a mysterious message from an alien civilization that defies translation. It turns out that the key to salvation is in the language spoken by the whales, the inhabitants of the ocean. Looks easy and interesting.

Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home 4K Review
Now I've gotten to the fourth episode of the franchise, called "Star Trek". After the weak third part, I expected the worst, but everything turned out to be much better than I thought.

After the success of the previous film, it was decided to keep Leonard Nimoy in the director's chair.

Taking into account the opinion of fans of the epic, who argued that 'Star Trek' in the last two films became too dark, it was decided to create a more cheerful and dynamic plot. They also abandoned the concept of the main enemy, replacing it with a sudden problem that needs to be addressed.

But a very comedic story came out, and the producers decided to involve the famous comedian Eddie Murphy in the film. But fans of the series were outraged by this fact and demanded to preserve the atmosphere of the series, and not turn it into a comedy. Although, in my opinion, more humor would not hurt here, but still this part is the most fun of all.

The plot of the film is a continuation of the third series and at first strongly resembles the original film. The crew of the deceased USS Enterprise, commanded by Kirk, returns home in a captured Klingon ship, preparing to face punishment for hijacking and sabotage.

At the same time, a spaceship of unknown origin appears near the Earth. It has a strange property to negatively affect the earth's weather and transmits signals to the Earth in the language of whales (completely extinct by the 23rd century). Captain Kirk travels back in time to bring whales with him and prevent the death of his home planet.

But then the fun begins. Our heroes find themselves in 1986, and now they need to get a couple of whales. But the full rzhach begins, they will have to refuel from a nuclear reactor, steal whales from the open sea, treat the terminally ill, etc.

I really liked the fact that the main part of the picture was filmed in the city of San Francisco, and not in the pavilions.

The acting isn't perfect, but the characters are shown very well. It can be seen that the experience has increased. And most importantly, there are no unnecessary characters.

I was very pleased with the camera work, especially the scenes of the flight over the Earth. And the special effects are much better than in previous Star Trek episodes.

And most importantly, in this film it's funny when it should be funny. And not vice versa.

The soundtrack is well chosen, the melodies are light, beautiful and catchy.

Conclusion: one of the best, although in my subjective opinion the best, series of the franchise. It will pull quite like a separate film. But as part of the series - a masterpiece, there is dynamics and humor, and this was sorely lacking in the first trilogy. Hopefully things will get better and better. After all, travel is just beginning!
