"Startrek" meets us 2 years after the start of the five-year mission. Captain Kirk is experiencing a personal crisis. He is not sure whether the direction is moving in the right direction, what is his purpose in the power of the Federation and what decision should be taken at this stage of life. Spock also falls into the power of complex circumstances, faced with a similar choice.

At this time they meet a space wanderer who asks for help. Her ship was wrecked in a mysterious nebula, and the entire crew was in captivity. The enterprise, having gone to the rescue, also crashes, being attacked by a large army of enemies, and falls on an unknown planet where heroes learn about the existence of weapons of mass destruction that endangers the existence of a huge number of planets and life on them.

For two hours we are involved in an interesting story, with a decent amount of graphics, beautiful battles, a small amount of humor, which is compensated by the necessary share of the meaning and depth of the narrative.

Simon Pegg and Doug Jang as scriptwriters tried to restore the magic of the original franchise, and it was practically done. What prevented it? In some cases there are not enough strong dialogues, and primitiveness of humor, for my taste. But the film has an idea, and great actors.

The statement about the importance of unity is absolutely clear. And the main characters, having united, it is necessary to save not only each other, but the whole Universe. Most importantly, the film is not based on special effects and action, but more on human qualities and manifestations. Both the protagonists and the antagonists. The representative of the latter - Kroll, brilliantly played by Idris Elba. Idris surprises with the variety of roles and the quality of their performance. And with each new work the idea that he can become a new Bond seems not so bad.

The main caste, as in the previous two parts, worked very well. The actors are chosen well. Neither add nor add, is the existing chemistry. Tragic loss of Anton Yelchin, who played Chekhov. Since the time of "Retribution", Leonard Nimoy also left the life - without exaggeration, the symbol of the entire universe of Startrek. To him in this film certainly paid tribute.

What, of course, attracts attention is the unconventional orientation of Sulu. There is nothing wrong with the presence of gays in the film, but the point is that Hollywood implants a change in race or orientation, following political motives. And in such large projects with a huge fan base, in my opinion, this is unacceptable. If they want a gay character, let them introduce a NEW original hero, and do not rape children's memories. This venality and political maneuvers should not affect the quality product. Commercialization in such large-scale projects can not be avoided, but it needs to be done very dosed, without offending the fandom. There is such a thing as fanfics, and with the advent of most people camcorders, as well as resources like YouTube, Vimeo, etc., they reached a new level and acquired a voice. In a similar format, it's great to develop the story and come up with different versions. But for a studio that owns rights, it's still important to respect authenticity, and I would not go to such scenario solutions.

The soundtrack to the film is wonderful. Rihanna's single, specially written for the release of the film, fits the spirit of the film. However, he still fades in comparison with the hit Beastie Boys - Sabotage. A scene in which you will hear this song is breathtakingly atmospheric. The whole hall seems to be at a spectacular concert and it is impossible to resist the applause.

In general, there are enough spectacular scenes in the film. Every 20 minutes something happens. But there is no congestion from action and special effects. Everything is very measured, exciting. And the film turned out to be very holistic. With the exception of minor flaws, this is a solid eight.

Not being a fan of the ardent fan of the series, and the sci-fi genre as such, it seems I'm starting to get it, and I understand the heroes of the Big Bang Theory, crazy at Star Trek.
